Very sad news. A great pianist, composer and a personal favourite. He was not a frequent visitor to the UK but I did get to see him live. Even in a large hall his distinctive piano sound was very much in evidence. RIP
I don't have this set but but a friend does. I was impressed by the presentation but IIRC the notes didn't get much further than printing the lineups. On the couple of discs I heard there were no significant sound problems but I wasn't listening that intently. I'd say buy with confidence if the price is reasonable.
Amazon UK have some useful reviews.
I enjoyed season one. Didn't mind Hanks too much but agree that Freeman was no substitute for William H Macy. Missed the first two parts of series two but finding it very watchable.
A charity shop find. Canadian issue I think. Terrible jacket but the record looks okay but sounds a bit gritty.
Also - at my wife's insistence to clear out some stuff i came across a single sided 10" lp test pressing of a London Origins of Jazz record. Very nice condition. Two tracks by Husk O'Hare's Super Orchestra and two by the Wolverines. Recordings from the early twenties in pretty decent sound.
We found this system of payment in Shanghai not too long ago. Years ago I recall many shops having a system of wires or pneumatic tubes for sending cash to the cashier.
I saw the Davis/Stitt band on this tour. Just out of my teenage years. I don't remember too much about it except what was played was hot and totally unexpected. We were definitely not prepared for it from the recordings available at the time.
