  1. Thanks for posting Brownie.
  2. This is one of those tunes that always seems to sound good (or maybe so many good versions). It's normally played fast but it I think it was written as a ballad. There's a slowish version by Lou Donaldson on Swing and Soul.
  3. Thanks to chewy's post Roswell Rudd; Everywhere. Impulse (orange and blackl) Mono
  4. Charlie Persip and the Jazz Statesmen. Right Down Front. Bethlehem. Sleeve note by Chris Albertson.
  5. Another vote for the Atlantic sides that were in the Mosaic box and Wherever The Five Winds Blow (RCA).
  6. Happy Birthday Jeff.
  7. An absolute favourite of mine too. Superb playing all round.
  8. It's not your normal blowing date.
  9. A favourite of mine too. Good sound choices that have stood the test of time. The 2000 update is good too but I find I rarely refer to it.
  10. The new guide is out, It's now "a history of jazz in a 1000 recordings". Presumably it's a collection of reviews from previous editions. Authors are still Cook and Morton. It doesn't seem like a particularly good buy this time. Anyone have it and care to comment.
  11. Missed Jazz Britannia so it was all new to me.
  12. The follow on Jazz 625 was a rare treat. Interesting stuff from start to finish. We could do with a similar programme today.
  13. Just replayed this album. Once you get over the harsh sound and the rather scrappy playing on the title track then it's a fair example of late Mobley. If I remember this was the time when Philly Joe was scuffling in London. edited for typo
  14. Sad news indeed. I can always watch Silver Streak.
  15. It's never been particularly fond of this session. But in view of sidewinder's comment I'll dig out the vinyl and give it a spin next.
  16. Happy Birthday GA and many more.
  17. Colin Walcott/Don Cherry/Nana Vasconcelos. Codona 3. ECM
  18. I've had a few in my time (on Black Jazz and if I remember correctly Impulse). Seemed to play fine.
  19. Art Ensemble of Chicago; Fanfare for the Warriors. Atlantic (German pressing)
  20. Have a great day!
  21. Happy Birthday Brownie.

The Bethlehems are excellent imo. As is Keys West originally on Capitol ( I have the Affinity vinyl).
  23. Boots Mussulli; Little Man. Affinity. (Capitol Stan Kenton Presents Series)
  24. Gigi Gryce; Signals. Savoy 2 lp set.
