So I picked up the Freedom box set today and I am quite pleased that contrary to the Amazon reviews, the sound is of pretty decent quality. Needless to say the music is fantastic. I really find Sun Ra's transitional music of the mid to late '60- early '70's pretty interesting. FWIW, I did not know that Pat Patrick doubled on electric bass, at least that's what the liners say for the 12/71 set.

A couple other places to hear some bassoon: James Newton Ensemble-Suite for Frida Kahlo-Audioquest...Julie Feves on bassoon and there's some nice George Lewis on this one too. Beaver Harris 360 Music Experience-Beautiful Africa-Soul Note...Ken McIntyre on bassoon and GM III in the front line as well.

What label (s) were these concerts originally on if any?

I found this one used a couple of weeks ago. I like it. Supposedly the tapes were mis-labled as a concert in Mexico in '74, but they are actually rehearsal tapes. By and large the music is intereseting, but there is the occasional tuning, talking and stopping mid-song, but there are several instances where the tunes will go on for 7-10 mins at a time. Not essential but worth it for a decent price. I think there are 4 or 5 2cd volumes in the series as of now.

I was pretty amazed to see the Clark-thought it was OOP-but at least two of the Half Prices here had them in stock along with various titles from that BN Spanish Blue Note Collection where all the covers are blue.

Opinions on this one? I can snap it up for about $30. How's the lecture?

Oh hell yeah! Of course, no one outside the jazz world would get it Don't have any tattoos, but if I was going to get one it would be a toss up of either Brotzmann's Machine Gun cover or Sun Ra's Jazz in Silhouette.

I wanted to clarify that the other slams can be seen live, just either really late or early in the morning. If I recall the Aussi is the hardest to watch on a decent schedule.

Tsonga dominated that first set, and I was quite impressed with his game. In short, he made a couple of amazing shots. Once Djokovic settled in though, it was all Novak after that. It must be a thrill for Novak to win his first major and no doubt it won't be his last. And for Tsonga who's unseeded to make the finals is also very noteworthy. He'll be ranked in the 20's for sure.

That's understandable; tennis is played all over the world and the time change plays a major role in that. the only slam that can be watched live here in the states is the US Open (I know, obviously ).

Well I didn't exactly make it back that Tuesday, stuff just kept coming up. But I finally got back there today to pick up the rest of them. But then there was another one on the shelves! This time Art Blakey's "Blakey" for $8!!!!!. I've been looking for that one for a long time so I ended up grabbing that one and once more neglecting to pick up the others. Well actually only the DeFranco/Peterson one is left, but I had no interest in picking that one up after listening to some samples. The strings for me just outright ruin it; the core band would've been just find without'em.
