  1. I was bummed to see this place has big sign up that reads "Store Closing." Easily one of the best music stores in Los Angeles. I've found some of my favorite cds and records there.
  2. Kobe (the "Chump") Bryant broke two records held by Wilt (the Stilt) Chamberlain recently--youngest player to 15,000 career points and four consecutive games with 45+ points.
  3. My avatar is a classic villain actor who appeared in action movies like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. This is me:
  4. Thanks a lot Joe, I really appreciate you guys giving me the opportunity.
  5. Not jazz, but it might be cool to throw in Al Grannum's "Soul Brother."
  6. I've got the ol' plastic ready for when the donation tab gets reinstated. Thanks organissimo and board members for everything, including putting up with my poor info/crap ratio.
  7. Happy Birthday!
  8. Listening now! Thanks!
  9. My worst flight was my trip to Maui two years ago. Bumpy as hell, and the plane was swooping from side to side on the landing. Looking around, I was the only nervous person on board so I figured I was overreacting. It must have been a pleasure cruise compared to some of these horror stories.
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. Happy Birthday!
  12. I listened to this tonight with new ears, while reading the comments in this thread. I'd neglected this album for some time after getting it more than a year ago. Beautiful playing by all involved, I can't say I have any complaints. A fine variety of sounds. I particularly enjoyed the solo piece this time around.
  13. I too hope everything's cool with the antlered one.
  14. Happy Birthday! Hope everything's cool with Jeff, wherever he may be.
  15. Yep. Texas was the better team last night, bottom line. USC had plenty of opportunities to put the game away (including Ting dropping that INT), and USC made more mistakes. I was shocked when Bush tried that stupid lateral early on. Not becoming of the Heisman winner.
  16. If they're not superstars, can we at least call Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, and the Wallaces household names?
  17. I thought the play referred to above was definitely a Texas fumble. Demonstration of control, two feet on the ground... I had a whole gripe about the horrible officiating ready to post, including the fact that Leinart had a second interception that somehow was called an incomplete pass, but whatever.
  18. I think Vince Young should get his money now, he's got plenty of time to get a degree later.
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. That's right, I forgot that was a twofer.
  21. I like the Curtis Mayfield cover and the song "Goodbye, So Long" on Superfunk, as well as the title track from Priced To Sell. I'll have to check out the previous 3 Funk, Inc. albums if they're better! Thanks MG.
  22. I certainly wouldn't take an AMG review as the final word. I thought it was notable that I agreed with the reviewer on anything at all.
  23. Here's the review on AMG: "Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine The title of Say It Loud! is taken from James Brown's anthem "Say It Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud," the R&B/funk classic that Lou Donaldson covers on this album. Instead of providing a thematic and musical touchstone for the rest of the record, the song is an attempt to prove that Donaldson is still on top of musical trends, but the lazy groove he and his band — trumpeter Blue Mitchell, guitarist Jimmy Ponder, organist Charles Earland, drummer Leo Morris — work up shows they're not quite comfortable with this contemporary funk. They sound much more at ease with standards like "Summertime" and "Caravan," which give them a chance to stretch out, even if they are arranged like commercially oriented soul-jazz. Nevertheless, their simple presence on the album puts the stiffness of Donaldson's groove-oriented soul-jazz in sharper relief. Midnight Creeper was a successful soul-jazz record because the group managed to hit the right tone and groove, but here his group sounds awkward and uneasy. There are a few good moments scattered throughout the album, particularly by Mitchell, but overall, Say It Loud! is one of the weakest records in Donaldson's catalog." I have and enjoy this disc, but I agree with this guy that "Summertime" and "Caravan" are the strongest tracks.
