"Pleasantly oppressive," nice description. I find this tune "Love & Hate" makes me mournfully reflective. Maybe its just the Negra Modelos. Listening now.
That about sums up my collection. My to-buy list is longer than my inventory. Much of the to-buy list are from Organissimo Blindfold Tests.
Off the top of my head, some names on the list are:
Horace Parlan
Barry Harris
Ornette Coleman
Need some of those guitarists Joe mentioned, too!
The most recent additions have included Ellington and Mingus, both of whom were glaring omissions from my collection for far too long. Still need more! I also have tons of single albums by giants such as Gil Evans. Need more Coltrane. Like Lon said though, there's still tons to discover!
A non-jazz gap that has been irking me forever is the absense of any Steely Dan on my shelves.
I voted to place it in the white area, to place it in a lower area in terms of heirarchy. I wouldn't make it orange, rather something which matches the surroundings. I use the blue skin setting, so the orange makes it appear as the most important thing on the page.
Who cares?
I do. Clem is great for cleansing the palate and getting back to basics (ie: reality) once in a while. Other times it's just BS but he keeps thinkers on their toes.
Clem's good folks.
Sure, ok. But I don't care if he, or anyone else, thinks my collection of music is shit. They ain't the ones who bought it. I did, and I like it. So piss off...
Clem cracks me up, I didn't intend to knock him. I guess my comment didn't come across as I intended.
Hell no! The iPod is just a listening device, the CDs are the storage. I play mine at work on a portable iPod stereo. With 4000+ songs on it, there's a lot of variety to play and complete quality control. If I don't like the song, I don't rip it!
How can this be? The Brownie set was released in 1995 (?) and the RVGs in 2001.
Is it likely that this set is actually a CD version of the Mosaic 5LP set?
I didn't know that.
