Kobe got caught with his hand in the cookie jar
Noj replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'll wait for a guilty verdict before I believe a word of it. Kobe is quoted in the LA Times as calling the charges "bogus." C'mon, do you really think Kobe has to even try to get laid? He's too classy and too intelligent, and I think the charges are BS. -
Clearly the cover created with the free Photoshop filter wins. HORRENDOUS. I actually passed on this great album a few times based on cover art alone:

And now, the debut of MR. JOSHUA... :rsmile:

Noj, this site may explain why they didn't believe you. http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/agarman/bco/fact2.htm I'm sure you saw a large black cat, but you surely didn't see a black panther. Cool man, thanks for the clarification. I'll have to remember to call it a "dark-pigmented mountain lion" or something should I tell the story again in the future.

A friend of mine named Peter had a pet Capuchin monkey from South America named Mickey. He was all brown, a very simple looking monkey. Noisy, funny facial expressions and a prehensile tail if I recall. One day I was over at Peter's house hanging out in the backyard and he decided to take Mickey out of the cage. In an instant, the monkey kicked off his chest and made a bee-line for me, latching onto my leg and biting me. There was a split second where I could have kicked Mickey, but I was worried I would hurt or kill the exotic pet so I made a lackluster attempt to keep him off of me and failed. It took twenty stitches or so to close the wound just below my knee. To this day I wish I would have kicked Mickey like a soccer ball. I used to have a black and white alley cat named Rocky that used to kill a different creature every day. When he was a kitten he cornered the biggest rattlesnake I have ever seen in our backyard, a four-footer. Another time I heard Rocky out on the porch crunching on something so loudly I decided to investigate. He was munching the body of a taratula whose legs were scattered all over the porch. In his prime Rocky killed a full-grown rabbit that was nearly as big as himself and decapitated it clean as a blade. The rabbit's earless head was next to the body on the doormat. Lovely mess to clean up. Old Rocky lived a long time, something like 13 years. One day he was just gone, I figure the coyotes got him. Recently there was a bobcat in our backyard, just liesurely laying in our grass taking a nap. Some Western Tanagers have made a nest in a palm frond in my backyard. The males are bright yellow, pretty striking. About a month ago a red-tailed hawk landed in the backyard and jumped around for several minutes on the ground. I've seen them for years flying over my house, but that was the closest I've ever seen a wild hawk like that--I was right at the window just a few feet away. Deer are constant visitors to my neighborhood. Several times I have awoken to the sound of a deer chewing leaves directly outside my bedroom window. Once a fawn fell in our swimming pool and was panicking when we came outside. My older brother jumped in and rescued it. Another time a fawn was outside running like crazy in circles, yelling in that weird baby-like cry deer have. Its mother was feeding nearby, and I swear she looked mortified by her offspring's behavior. The coolest thing I've seen with deer, though, is two males engaged in a battle over a female--actually clashing horns and battling! Like Wild Discovery at home. There's a flock of exotic birds in Burbank, I think they are escaped pets. Parrots and other ones I don't know what to call, definitely not native. The mother-of-all-stories, however, has to be the time a black panther walked past the fence in my backyard. My mom, dad, brothers, and I all saw it. We even looked at the footprints in the sand, they were a good five inches across. I remember our dog Reno, a good watch dog, was hiding under a table close to the house. She wanted no parts of that cat, for though lean it stood taller than a Rottweiler. The people at the Animal Shelter wouldn't believe us and laughed at us. They thought we were playing a joke on them.

As a Laker fan, the Walton selection is not anything to jump up and down about. From what I gather he inherited his old man's injury-prone feet and ankles. Madsen is so non-existent on offense that Luke might fit in better on that end, but defensively I bet he'll get victimized. That is, if Phil gives him any minutes. This Cook kid, on the other hand, averaged 20 and 10 his senior year and was Big 10 Player Of The Year. Not too shabby.

new CD trays where the center hole grip is solid
Noj replied to skeith's topic in Miscellaneous Music
My copy of Dorothy Ashby's Afro Harping suffers from this affliction. Aggravating. The spindle is TOO solid to press at all. I have to pry the cd out and bend it as described. -
American Cheese was made for the purpose of In-N-Out Burgers. Wouldn't accept my 3x5 with any other queso.

To me the cut looked wide and deep, as well as splitting in two directions at the end like crow's feet. He also had a small cut developing below the eye.

A few that I've enjoyed: First season of South Park Beavis & Butthead Anyone remember Amazing Stories? That's one I'd like to see again. -
A non-swimmer in deep water. Worked nights as a janitor while going to school.

Ouch, the wrath of Soul Stream. "Screwed over again." Does this sort of thing happen often with musicians? I find it odd that Mr. Patton would be so uninvolved in the final product that he would feel as though his creative input had been misused.

Burned a copy off my mom months ago, listened to it maybe twice. It isn't bad, isn't great.

I've just recently been getting my first of Ammons' material. I love the song "Jug Eyes."

Yeah, what happened to PFunkjazz? I remember him getting in a verbal tussle with some newbie at the old board. loverofjazz is now victor at AAJ. You know, the strange dude from Utah who likes muscular ladies and posts about jazz birthdays.

My Dad was 11 when his father died. By 15 he was on his own as he hated his stepdad. My dad met my mom in high school, they were married with one child by 19. Two more sons followed in 6 years of which I was the youngest. Dad's mom died shortly before I was born, and my two Aunts and an Uncle (dad's half-sisters and half-brother) were left without anyone to care for them. My parents shouldered the responsibility despite limited income. Through it all, my parents have literally been saints for their patience and willingness to help all six of us out. My Dad is the mentor to which all of my siblings, Aunts, Uncle, and I turn, and is an extremely good, caring, and compassionate person as well as a wise decision maker. He works extremely hard in the medical supply business working with kids who need special care and wheelchairs. My mother works for a school and their combined incomes are stretched thin so that we can stay in the house they have worked all their lives to have. My parents do not have their retirements in order. All they have known is work and get the bills paid. My greatest dream is that I might make it big enough to send them into a well-deserved retirement, and my greatest fear is that I won't.

Hi Leanne, Black Star is Mos Def/Talib Kweli/DJ Hi-Tek. I really dig Mos Def, and though I haven't heard the tune you're talking about, he has made quite a few that sound like you describe. He did a collaboration with Ronny Jordan called "Brighter Day" that was cool. His song "Umi Says" is somewhere between rapping and singing and spoken word, and his production is always top notch. Really I would recommend the entire first Black Star album and Mos' solo album Black On Both Sides, they are both as good as hip hop gets. Another track where Mos does his "almost singing" is "Foundation" with DJ Honda. You may also dig Cee-Lo, check out his album Cee-lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections. Particularly the song "Gettin' Grown" comes to mind. His work with Outkast on the Aquimini album is fantastic, and have a listen to the song "Held Down" with De La Soul where Cee-lo incorporates a gospel sound with hip hop. Talib Kweli is also worth a listen, the track "Joy" off his latest album is a personal favorite. He did a track with Morcheeba called "Let Me See" that is pretty cool for this rapper with a singer combo. Common's collaboration with Jill Scott "I Am Music" has a particularly jazzy vibe. Mos Def also has a track with Jill Scott called "Love Rain" that is pretty cool. Erykah Badu fits right along these lines. Her two studio and one live effort are both outstanding IMO, and she has also worked with Mos Def, Cee-lo, and Outkast. A whole lot of hip-hop from the early days is jazzy because, well, they sampled jazz. A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory or De La Soul Is Dead are both impossible to go wrong with if you remotely like hip-hop. The benchmark of all sampling is the Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique. Sorry to ramble, hope I helped...
