  1. Great links RT, thanks. I just had a thought: Are any of you guys "proud of your cultural heritage"? When I look back at my family tree and I imagine my ancestors in Ireland or Holland or Germany, it is sort of neat. But am I "proud"? No. I'm proud of my own acheivements, not people who lived before me and happened to be from the same part of the world. I think this sort of "pride" is thinly-disguised racism. I've seen Latin dudes with "Brown Pride" in letterforms on their windshields. It is sort of saying "proud to not be white," defensively. Just imagine "White Pride" on a windshield...
  2. Is anyone else getting corrupted mp3s with intermittent pauses of silence? Really aggravating to take the time to download a file only to have the music screwed up. I was really wanting this Sonny Phillips track and downloaded it 3 times to no avail.
  3. :rsmile:
  4. I began responding to this several times yesterday before stopping myself as I felt the crucial points were eloquently addressed in the first few posts exchanged. I have a very diverse group of friends, and it is through common activities and tastes that we have remained friends since junior high school. It has not mattered that one is black/Native American/Italian, that others are Mexican, that another is Punjabi Hindu, that another is Cuban, that still another is Argentinian... But, I too have noticed that groups like mine are exceptions to the rule.
  5. I only have 4 of those above, and Kofi is my favorite of the 4. I like Electric Byrd but not as much. Looks like I need to get the Patton. My favorite McDuff is Moon Rappin', but I dig the grease on Down Home Style too. :rsmile:
  6. I have quite a few Rare Grooves but by no means all of them.
  7. Three threads worth of music I want to get. I've got a long way to go. :rsmile:
  8. Would you mind explaining this further Soul Stream, with an example or two? What rock songs were good for jazz improvisation?
  9. Beck has FAR more musical ability than the vomitous N'Sync, just to be a stickler. It could have been, "what's next, Lonnie plays Portishead?" That would have been closer to the mark. "Loser," his biggest song, is one of few Beck songs I hate. "Sexx Laws" was also a stinker. Lonnie should have done more songs from Mellow Gold. Beck always has great graphic design on his covers! :rsmile: :rsmile:
  10. I'm a fan of Beck's music and I have some great 70s Lonnie Smith, so I'm definitely interested. I'm actually a little disappointed in the choice of tracks, but still intrigued. :rsmile:
  11. Charming stuff, she would have been an excellent children's book artist. This is not meant as an insult, there is a good market for children's book illustration. :rsmile:
  12. Mickey & The Soul Generation Peg Leg: Complete Recordings :rsmile:
  13. OK, I'm going obscure on y'all... SLEDGE HAMMER--detective who conversed with his gun! This show was hilarious, I don't know why it only lasted two seasons. "Trust me, I know what I'm doing..." DR. JECKLE & MR. HYDE TOGETHER AGAIN--HBO cocaine spoof movie! STEVE MARTIN'S GREATEST SHOW EVER--HBO special, Steve Martin wins the Olympic diving competition!
  14. $1 a song is WAY too much. Considering in my first $10 month at emusic I have downloaded nearly 300 songs...
  15. I have this one and it really didn't grab me. I'd also like to read more Phineas suggestions...

    Donald Byrd

:rsmile: Kofi, Electric Byrd, and Ethiopian Knights--all cool, Kofi is my favorite of the three--particularly the title track and "Loud Minority."
  17. mp3 sound quality aside, get... Hampton Hawes NORTHERN WINDOWS PLUS--excellent! :rsmile:
  18. Speaking of Wes, I had previously mentioned that I love the alternate version of "Bumpin On Sunset" on this one...
  19. Gerald Wilson
  20. There was a post from him a while back explaining that he has personal issues to deal with which will prevent him from posting as frequently.
  21. Got Blackstone Legacy last night, along with the other Woody Shaw studio album emusic offers. One listen has confirmed your advice was sound, ralphie_boy and AfricaBrass! "New World" was my immediate favorite. :rsmile: This morning:
  22. Nice mixes MWTGA! I've been downloading virtually the same tracks.. :rsmile:
  23. You're welcome! I've been doing the same thing with emusic. I have hundreds of cds of mp3 albums that I've downloaded. The problem is: I don't have all the cds labeled, so I don't know what's on them. OOOF!!! I've been tediously labelling each track to help that problem. Did you check out the Kool & The Gang album they have? Now that is some FUNK! Lee Fields is funky too, even though he is a James Brown clone...
  24. Thanks AfricaBrass. Emusic, I'm PILLAGING those guys. :rsmile:
