  1. Happy Birth - day dear Wesbed.... Sorry I missed it!
  2. Happy 30th! Life begins at 30, ya know...
  3. I LOVE Match Game! That theme song!!
  4. I think the 27th is Noj's birthday, Rachel -- it's just being celebrated in all time zones around the globe! well, being in bass-ackward Indiana which has two time zones and multiple counties that participate in daylight savings time and others that do not, I always like to cover all of my bases. So I'll probably wish Noj "HB" tomorrow too, just to be safe.
  5. Happy Birthday Noj! Sorry I missed the fun...
  6. Happy Birthday JK!
  7. Oh Allen, silly boy... you make it so easy to *go there*. Where's that silly editor when we need him.... Sorry Others have questioned you throughout this thread and until now you persisted on addressing me only. You come at me and I'll come right back. How did I know that your next post would be a listing of your curriculum vitae.
  8. I love how this thread has become the "What Does Allen Lowe Think About the World" thread. Honestly I could give a rat's ass what you think about Pat Metheny's playing. I prefer to speak to those who have actually played and recorded with him. You don't know me at all, so don't pre-judge me. Hell, you had to ask B-3er if he played a real B3. I don't necessarily believe this to be true at all because there are many writers, especially on this board whom I admire and respect because they understand that there are opinions out there that are different than their own and don't mind the questions. But in your case it might apply: Those who can, do; those who can't, write about it.
  9. thank God for editors, eh?
  10. go back and re-read your initial posts... maybe it takes 57 posts for people to express themselves more clearly.
  11. Hey, just reading what you wrote. I'm not the only one who thought it was a logical leap. You continued by saying that Metheny's attitude is why you hate the sound of most jazz guitar, then you say that you don't hate Metheny's sound, you just don't like it very much. So, Metheny's attitude makes you hate the sound of most jazz guitar but make you just 'not like' his so much. Sure, 57 posts later your point is a little more clear...
  12. For the record I said that your initial statement made no sense because it made no logical sense, not because I necessarily agreed or disagreed. You extrapolated quite a bit from a few sentences from an article and made a quick pronouncement that seemed like a broad jump from point A to point B. You have no idea what type of music I like. Yes I'm a jazz fan, but I'm also a fan of many types of music. But I'm a logic fan too: I was responding to your words and wondering how you could dismiss all ( or at least most) jazz guitar based on something Pat Metheny says (as if he speaks for all jazz guitarists). That's all.
  13. So..... you don't think that Metheny can exploit the qualities of his guitar while he is using it as a vessel to express his music? Have you never heard him play? ... and the way Metheny feels about this has turned you off to the sound of all jazz guitar? That makes no sense whatsoever... 7/4: Thanks for posting this article. Are you going to make it to the Beacon show?
  14. Aftab, I really enjoyed reading your comments since you have never seen them before live. I saw the Chicago show the night before Milwaukee, and I understand what you mean about it 'changing you'. I have seen Pat Metheny many times and have been a fan for many years, but this was different for me, somehow. I was able to sit down front and center for this show, and it was simply amazing to watch this unfold before my eyes. I truly felt like I was experiencing the creation of something great and timeless--the creative energy from that stage was breathtaking. I reacted to this show the same way I did when I saw my first Renoir. The Way Up, as a recording, is beautiful and complex... but live.... there just aren't adequate words. I was so energized and inspired after the show that I didn't sleep all night. I was curious, too, to see how it would all come together live. It was seamless. They altered the ending, leaving off the last few minutes; however, with the extended soloing and some compositional additions throughout I believe it was well over 70 minutes. It seemed to be completed before I could take my next breath... and that was only the first third of the show! I loved how they were softly playing a loop of the very beginning of the intro as we entered the theater. It was almost a subliminal whisper of what was to come, building the anticipation. What turned out to be exquisite was Pat entering the theater and quietly sitting down with his Manzer Baritone and improvising "This is Not America" over the loop. Yep, this is his protest record, all right... It was also great seeing Steve Rodby's face beaming at the extended ovations he received on his homecoming to Chicago. The entire band seemed pleased and maybe a little surprised at just how much the audience responded to Pat and Lyle's latest creation. The guitar "choreography" is pretty impressive too. Carolyn Chrzan, his guitar tech, is absolutely amazing during the show. It was nice to hear some old favorites, especially from 'Secret Story' featuring Gregoire Maret on harmonica. Lone Jack was also on a whole other level from what I've heard in the past. This show is still living inside my head... it's hard to get my work done!
  15. The other words that keep me from looking are: "man gets drunk and....." Usually involves some type of sharp object and himself.
  16. Ok.... I can't help myself; I just see his name and I have to say it... 'Git-R-Done!!!' All-righty then...
  17. "eat your casserole, Tina... GOSH!! "

  25. Avatar Jennifer has a s-load of Barbies... Princess Analise Barbie; Swan Lake Barbie; Beach Bronzed Barbie (freakishly orange); rock and roll Barbie (with freakishly orange hair) as well as their many female sidekicks and accompanying 'surfer dude' guy barbies. She has 467 different outfits with about 900 pairs of tiny microscopic spike heel pumps for the 467 different outfits. Yet they lay around in a big heap of nakedness (except for the spike heel pumps) like they all are spent after a 3 day sex binge. They just look so pornographic. I found myself saying..."Jennifer, let's play dress up and try some different outfits on your Barbies!" and she said..."no thank you, Ra-Ra....I like them like this"... I shuddered as the words left my mouth... I know I recognized my voice, but the words just didn't sound like me. They sounded like something my grandmother would have said. Oy.....
