  1. This thread prompted me to pull out the Future Sounds of Jazz compilation CDs on Compost label I have from my partying days. I remember quite liking them as background music back in the day (I thought it was better than whatever was being played in the clubs), but today I failed to force myself to listen to them for longer than 10 minutes, even at the background. It's all actually well made (albeit numbingly predictable) stuff, but this whole repetition thing is not something I can tolerate these days. I would not be able to listen to Philip Glass either (Reich maybe). So sorry, no recommendations from my side. I remember early Truffaz was OK. Oh, I remembered one - Graham Haynes bpm on Knitting Factory. It's not entirely successful, but some of it is quite entertaining:
  2. Probably my favorite Mosaic set.
  3. Banalities-infested intro aside, this is a good (and educational - I am not very familiar about Lazro's early works) read.
  4. Jazz in the '90s blog upcoming?
  5. Looks like somebody barely literate scribbled (with noticeable difficulty) on whatever was lying around. Munched the digipak as well.
  6. Was listening to some Rosengren today, and decided to read his Wikipedia entry - only to discover that he died a couple of days ago.
  7. Steve Kuhn
  8. Stretching the definition of a jazz musician, Frank Zappa used to paint when he was young:
  9. Ivo Perelman Daniel Humair
  10. You want weird? You want genius? Here we go:
  11. It's all (or nearly all) on Spotify.
  12. 12 - that's only the ones that are on Pi. There are other ones on bandcamp. I like this one a lot: https://billlaswell.bandcamp.com/album/too-much-sugar-for-a-dime
  13. Everything comes to an end eventually, and Mr Davidson is 80 already. I am very grateful to him for all the music he released. I ordered from him directly numerous times, always an excellent service. I probably have most of the EMANEM / Psi CDs I need (more than a 100, that is), but I hope some way (streaming, bandcamp, etc.) will be found to have this wonderful music available to future listeners.
  14. Here you are, Sir: https://books.telegraph.co.uk/Product/Henry-Threadgill/Easily-Slip-into-Another-World/28230593 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Easily-Slip-into-Another-World/dp/1524749079/ref=sr_1_2?crid=37OB1U0L6H53L&keywords=1524749079&qid=1682369727&sprefix=1524749079%2Caps%2C150&sr=8-2
  15. These are different pieces, they're just titled the same . I like the solo set more, although I have not listened to it all.
  16. Mosahiko Togashi with Steve Lacy and Kent Carter. Good stuff, although it would have been great if it was just a Togashi-Carter duo. Lacy's participation makes it more "ordinary". Great sound. It's five albums of which four (with the exception of "Down South") are available from Ogun on bandcamp: https://ogun3.bandcamp.com/music . The music is OK, not spectacular.
  17. In excellent sound. I understand it's made available by Glenn's daughter.
  18. Very sorry to hear this. Coincidentally, was listening to "Moon", his beautiful lyrical duo with Kirk Knuffke on NoBusiness, just yesterday and was thinking that I need to explore more Berger. This one was recently reissued on CD for the first time.
  19. Wonderful, unique musician.
  20. Very sorry to hear this, Bankhead was an excellent musician. I love his playing and sound. That duo with Fred Anderson that Chuck references in the first post is really fantastic: https://ayler-records.bandcamp.com/album/the-great-vision-concert
  21. It's on Spotify as of recently:
