  1. faces, Faces, FACES . . . FIVE GUYS WALKED INTO A BAR . . . Where was this stuff 30 years ago when I wore-out "A Nod is as Good as a wink . . . to a Blind Horse"? These guys should have been HUGE HUGE HUGE!!! Well at least we've got these 5 hours. Would like to see some more live stuff release though!
  2. I've always wondered: I know that the label fronts the $$$ to make the recording, and then the cost is recovered from CD sales. So in effect, the artist is paying for the recording, the label just fronts the artist the $$$. So why then, does the label own the recording, if the artist paid for it?
  3. Due to apathy on the part of this BB, my Border's coupon has gone unused.
  4. No Shorter compositions? Does he get much solo space?
  5. Yup, yer right on. When I was a kid I bought into all that stuff, but now I know better. People are just people, warts and all. Can't say that deadheads are any better than the rest . . . ., probably worse. Still love the music though.
  6. Of course, BeBop is right. Somebody's got to save this sorry economy and I guess it falls to me.
  7. Ok, I'm about to vent so be forewarned! The Milwaukee County Library has a great music CD collection that I use extensively. However, over the years I've noticed that Grateful Dead CDs are WAY MORE likely to be not returned by borrowers. In the online library system the entry will show a due date (often years old), and an indication that the borrower has been billed of the unbreturned item (and presumably never paid or the item would be replaced by now). I was very happy to see that the Library got the Garcia box. There's a long line but I was moving up steadily. Persons one thru 5 returned it promptly, but No. 6 is now a week over due. Based on the library's track record with Dead Heads, I'm afraid that it'll never be returned, they'll bill him and he won't pay. It suck's for me and the over 16 people still on the waitting list.
  8. A worthy nomination! However, I already own this fine collection.
  9. Ok, I'm stumped! What should I use my Borders coupon on? By the way, you can get the coupon at: http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/Borders20Coupon.html
  10. Faces: Five Guys Walk Into a Bar . . .
  11. What other Blue Notes were re-issued on 7/13 besides Andrew Hill's "Black Fire"? Thanks!
  12. The Faces box set is out. I've picked it up, but haven't had a chance to listen yet.
  13. To clarify, all sets are CD. Thanks.
  14. Dusty Groove now has Boom Boom in stock. Feet Music is now out of stock again.
  15. My Blue Mitchell, Thad Jones & Sam Rivers Mosaics are for sale. I'm not sure what they are worth. If anyone knows what these have been going for please let me know. In any case I will not entertain offers less than the original Mosaic list price. Offers may be emailed to me at petezwief@gdinet.com. Thanks.
  16. Thanks for helping get up to speed.
  17. Watched the movie "Jerry McGuire" last nite. The female lead's friend is a buffoonish jazz obsessive. He raves about a live Miles Davis & John Coltrane recording in Stockholm from 1963. I have all the Davis/Coltrane live stuff I can find from the 1960 "last" european tour, but I've never heard of this "1963" recording. Did the moviemakers screw this up or is there actually such a recording? Thanks.
  18. Dusty Groove got Feet Music back in stock & I ordered it. Still lookiing for Boom Boom.
  19. Well, every time I buy a CD I'm spending money I don't have, so I won't be making any expensive upgrades to my system. But since the library has a copy, I'll check it out for the "ways to improve the sound of your system without spending mega-bucks".

  21. I like the early stuff, 1968-1971, with Pigpen and the heavy psychedelic stuff. I think Garcia played a tuffer, sharper, more agressive style of guitar then. I also like the Europe '72 era, but have avoided later stuff. Comments on DP 28 have raised my interest however and its 2 long versions of Eyes of the World are tempting me. Anybody care to share their opinion of DP 19, another '73 show? Always liked Bertha from Skull & Roses (a/k/a Skullfuck), but am not aware of any other releases containing good versions. Alligator from King's Beach Bowl knocks me out, the perfect cure for one too many Lovelights! Any suggestions for other Pigpen recordings of songs less commonly recorded?
  22. The Atomic discs are a nightmare to find! None of the unusual sources have them.
  23. The Milwaukee show w/ Vandermark Five was great! It's great to see bands that have played together for years and as a result are tight tight tight. I forgot to pick-up enough $$$ before the show & was forced to choose between a few beers or an Atomic disc. The beer seemed like a good idea at the time, but I'm regretting my choice now . . . The show started 2 hours late so I guess the beer was inevitable . . . .
  24. Atomic is opening for the Vandermark Five in Milwaukee Wednesday 6/16/04. I'll be there.
  25. Thanks!
