yeah, hard to care, as much as I like Henderson and Dorham. I've got all of this stuff in one form or another. Nothing from the vault and not enough alternates to make it worthwhile IMO.

Coleman (Steve) worked with Doug Hammond a bunch and I wonder how Doug and that whole scene fit into M-Base. Never really got into the latter for various reasons but the Doug Hammond albums on Idibib (and Tribe) are super. ooh Lasha acetate, nice! Had many phone conversations with him over the years, and he was/is an amazing person.

Downes is very cool. He's been sending along youtube vids of his quarantine solos, so I get a Downes sonic observation in my inbox every now and then. His latest was a "flute admonishment" to the moles digging up the garden near his house. Hilarious.

yeah those Surmans are great. John Warren is a hell of an arranger. Bob Downes also stepped out in that direction with Electric City.

What about the London Jazz Composers' Orchestra or the London Improvisers' Orchestra? More in the avant-garde realm, but certainly worth investigating. There's also John Stevens' Spontaneous Music Orchestra and Paul Rutherford's Iskrastra, both of which are maybe a bit more obscure. Might also add People Band to this list if you haven't already explored their work. Two Emanem archival releases, well worth investigating.

Eno seems to have walked some of this back, so my apologies -- he was initially positing a Brexit/Trump "they'll burn it all down/hard reset" mentality a few years ago which even then was not a great look. From musicians I've talked to who know the situation up close, Parker is definitely on some anti-immigration Brexit trip and has been for a while. Now of course one can say they are anti-immigration but not anti-immigrant. However, I don't think one can really back up a stance where populations aren't welcome but "this individual over here is okay." And yeah, I know we're veering plenty close to full-on politics here, so I'll leave it at that. Parker's music is wonderful but I can do without his worldview. (oh, and apparently don't get EP started on 9/11, according to a friend of mine)

Sad about Ian Brown, didn't know that -- dug the Stone Roses when I was a high schooler and find that the first records still holds up. Re: EP, I find it bizarre that a former member of the Brotherhood of Breath would be anti-immigration but here we are. Gonna pass on the radio piece, don't need to hear it.

yeah, agree. The actors seem way worse. that said, I was consigning records to a shop in Austin and wrote the descriptions myself, including one for a Tony Williams Lifetime album in which I wrote "get a taste of fusion without the Scientology payout" or something like that, and it was flagged for removal because of inappropriate content. I guess Scientologists trawl eBay looking for perceived defamation?

I'll definitely watch this. There's that sad photo of the assassination aftermath and a copy of Out To Lunch is plainly visible on the apartment floor.

I tend to disagree; most of the cover art was pretty bad, but I don't let that affect my enjoyment of his music.
