  1. I've definitely seen him but am struggling to remember who else was in the group! It was certainly good, whatever it was... his NineWinds LPs are all quite choice, have most of them in the racks. More recent albums I am less familiar with though I have a few. oh wait, it was in August 2012 at Ibeam, duo with Filiano. Right after I moved east.
  2. This one is over ten years old now, but it's great (CD is oop): https://ugexploderecords.bandcamp.com/album/gro-es-messer
  3. I'm moving into an actual house at the end of the year and will probably need to start pricing out a second stereo, so maybe there are some good recommendations in here that won't totally break the bank.
  4. for me as long as it gets the job done I'm happy. now, record collection envy... that's another matter.
  5. Ah damn, RIP. One of a kind.
  6. yeah, orchestral version IIRC, but yeah.
  7. cool! One of my favorites, though I've never had a Saturn copy.
  8. Good one -- have the original silkscreen private press that Hino did for his "Love" imprint.
  9. Sad news! Legendary spot, never been to Copenhagen but...
  10. It is an iconic album in the Blue Note catalog, and the title track is very listenable.
  11. (IMO) excellent session. Ken returned to his native Jamaica and is now a missionary. Sweet man.
  12. crazy. The LP is usually $5-$10. It's a good one.
  13. yeah, I got a decent $2 Liberty USA copy maybe 20-25 years ago; decided to purge it a while back and was surprised to get like $40 for it. Good record but I did not feel the need to keep one in the racks. Maybe I'll grab a Japanese at some point.
  14. I know a fair amount of musicians that fall into the same camp; most are around Van's age. I tend to disagree with their conspiratorial mindsets but value my connection with them as people and artists.
  15. Thanks for sharing the Shipp posts, can see 'em now. I guess I am a bit young to have witnessed a lot of what he's talking about, and the outing bit is even worse than I realized.
  16. no longer on FB, and wish I could read Matt's thread. certainly Crouch was an asshole but he is/was hard to avoid on some level if one engages seriously with this music.
  17. Wonder if we'll ever get to hear the Black Music Infinity recordings? Or read Outlaws & Gladiators?
  18. yeah. though much earlier, Ain't No Ambulances... gets deep into some very homophobic zones. Not easy to stomach.
  19. My thoughts exactly.
  20. I remember this post on JC. The Smith looks legit and very much a one-off at the pressing plant. Would be fun to have -- part of the crazy game of record collecting, for sure!
  21. That's it. Glad to know they are selling copies!
  22. Huh -- I have the original Actuels, good performances but sound like shit. Didn't realize they were recorded that much earlier than 1970-71.
  23. I have nothing to do with it, haha -- just heard it. I'll post something when distribution is secured.
  24. the duo with Silva is my favorite of the newer releases. A solo trumpet/text piece is coming out on LP in France, will keep folks apprised of that one. It's beautiful.
