wonderful LP. Now spinning: Musiques du Gabon, Ocora 41

Great record -- have the original on Debut, as well as his album on Metronome called Ashoka Suite (not quite on the same level, but good). He was quite involved with the Radiojazzgruppen at the time, appearing on at least a couple of their other releases. Don't know his later work nearly as well, but an interesting figure nonetheless. I'll have to check out that Rypdal -- looks cool.

Abdul Malik Muhammad -- Songs for our Children -- (Amir, US) good solo guitar record from the artist formerly known as Melvin Smith

Saxophonist Joe Phillips a/k/a Yusef Mumin was also in trumpeter Norman Howard's group, which cut a proposed LP for ESP that was later issued on cassette by Homeboy Music and then some of that came out on an ESP CD several years ago. Drummer Haasan Al-Hut has, to my knowledge, not appeared on anything else. It's a great, great record -- have had a CD-R of it for many years. A second Black Unity Trio LP was recorded but remains unreleased. Not sure if the masters survived.

gnarly. The US is absolutely underreporting. A friend's mother, who has cancer and is undergoing chemo, was turned away even though she had fever and chills as well as a cough because she had not been to China or Iran. She lives in Texas, where right now (at least in her area) there is not a shortage of beds.

Yeah, that I agree with! Malli is almost funky on this Nickelsdorf cut. It's too bad he's not more widely known; I enjoy his saxophone playing as well, especially on the duo LP with George Brown.

Right on; yeah some RAU/Masters of Unorthodox Jazz stuff is more of a blowout than others. I don't have that Nickelsdorf CD but have heard it before. That's the one with Frank Wright, correct?

Would be pretty free stuff I'd think; Barabbas was in the Masters of Unorthodox Jazz as was Malli (who was also in the Reform Art Unit and Three Motions). Josef Traindl, another RAU member, played on one of the aforementioned Koglmann records with Steve Lacy a.o. as well.

Definitely would like to get the LP if it comes up in nice condition, long been curious about it.

yeah, waiting on the official reissue. Have had a couple chances to grab the original but never in ideal condition.
