  1. Never really followed ELP though I appreciated their contributions (and his) from a historical perspective. RIP and, as we've learned it was suicide, an extra-harsh loss.
  2. Huh. Dusty Groove is still showing March 30 for the SME and McNair.
  3. haven't dug that one out in a while -- will rectify!
  4. pretty sure Jeff knows that better than almost anyone here
  5. ordered the solo Rock and the Braxton. Thanks.
  6. note that the BE! single LP reissue is an unauthorized bootleg. They also booted the Meinert recently. Fredriksberg has worked with the artists a/o their estates on this music.
  7. yeah, Sing the Children Over is excellent. I listened to it fairly recently. Saw Kath play a couple years ago in my neighborhood and it was a good gig -- she was opening for Ed Askew, whom I've since become friends with.
  8. I was spinning that recently - Essence - may have mentioned it in the vinyl listening thread. Very good record. I like Kloss and should probably pick up a few more of his albums, Sky Shadows being one and Life Force / We're Goin' Up being a couple of others I'd like to hear.
  9. I would not call it a mistake -- like many independent imprints, Blue Note used old stock/earlier covers, labels, inner sleeves and even stampers on newer runs. They were cost-conscious, both before and after the Liberty takeover.
  10. AMM - To Hear and Back Again - (Matchless, UK) naturally I love this particular edition of the band, just tenor and drums.
  11. well I was referring to DJ types.
  12. Billy Bang - Rainbow Gladiator - (Soul Note)
  13. I am more aware of him as a sideman and am not really too familiar with his leader dates (Blow Up I've seen around a few times - seems to be desired by the fonk scenesters). He's got a nice sound on his instrument, though.
  14. Keith Tippett - Mujician - (FMP/SAJ, GER)
  15. Steve Lacy - The Window - (Soul Note) one of his finest late '80s dates.
  16. Steve Lacy - Lumps - (ICP, NL) Itaru Oki - The Trumpet in Modern Jazz - (Toshiba, JP)
  17. agreed, excellent session. They're doing a great job.
  18. yeah, I'd heard about his unfortunate manner of passing elsewhere, too. I was under the impression that he and Cecil were in disagreement about the music, but beyond that I'm not sure of specifics. He's a fantastic player on that record.
  19. 'zactly.
  20. I could do one later in the year.
  21. same here. I was "cherryco" on the BNBB. Can't remember who I am these days.
  22. Haven't dug out my Liberty Stereo of Destination Out! in ages. A classic record indeed.
