  1. Haha, it wasn't intended to be, but it's hard to find things that aren't well known among the organissimo community, not to mention that most of my CDs are in boxes and have been since I moved 4 years ago! And although Homefromtheforest probably has and knows all of these albums intimately, maybe he won't spill the beans on the first day!
  2. Hello all, I've uploaded BFT 152 to SoundCloud for streaming. There are 12 tracks in all and they reflect my tastes, which as you probably know veer from the fairly straight-ahead to the abrasive and downright odd. These are all taken from original jazz/improvisation LPs in nice condition, though there are the occasional pops (most of my CDs are in boxes and not too accessible). I used a friend's MP3 turntable so I would not call these "audiophile" rips, but they do at least serve the purpose for listening and examination. Feel free to start listening and start posting on or slightly before November 1. I'll do my best to comment and nudge people though my schedule is fairly busy. And please, of course, let me know if you have difficulty streaming and I can send the MP3s directly.
  3. If only you could get it for that low of a price.
  4. Right you are about Lacy. Stalks is a truly amazing record - actually, all those 1975 Japanese tour LPs are essential. There's no "Clinker" in the bunch that he did for Hat Art/Hat Hut.
  5. Makes sense to me. All of those bands are great - especially love Swell Maps (and much of Sudden's post-Maps work).
  6. Intervall is an amazing record. I don't have the Dragon or Odeon LPs but shall pick them up someday. He reminds me of a Swedish Bill Barron or something along those lines.
  7. Alexander "Skip" Spence - Oar - (Columbia, US stereo orig)
  8. For sure. He was formerly known as Richard Youngstein and played with Paul Bley, Peter Ivers, Perry Robinson, Burton Greene and others. Left music and became a substance abuse counselor in LA (with a side trip to Kansas City where he, I think, worked at KCAI).
  9. The Noah Young is definitely good. Was sad when he passed last year -- interesting guy, seemed very nice.
  10. John Russell/Roger Turner/Toshinori Kondo - Artless Sky - (Caw, UK orig)
  11. François Tusques - Free Jazz - (Mouloudji, FR)
  12. Steve & Iqua Colson - Triumph! - (Silver Sphinx, original private pressing) Steve was selling sealed original copies of this one at a beautiful AACM-NY concert last night. Was glad to buy it from the source! Excellent music too.
  13. agreed.
  14. JC - Coltranology - (BYG, Japan)
  15. People today, mostly younger, seem more inclined towards playlists. I have had several 20-something coworkers ask me about favorite playlists/etc. on Spotify and what-not. I just can't think of music like that, though I've heard some good online mixes made through Mixcloud and other apps (mostly of the psychedelic and new age variety). If I'm going to put on a recording it's not from the perspective of a setlist, though my listening does sometimes flow from album to album depending on my mood. Then again, last night I went from Hans Reichel to Bud Powell, so...
  16. Among the jazz records I've listened to the most are: Art Ensemble of Chicago 'People in Sorrow' (Nessa) Archie Shepp 'Four for Trane' (Impulse) Ornette Coleman 'Change of the Century' (Atlantic) Bill Dixon 'Intents & Purposes' (RCA-Victor) Albert Ayler 'Ghosts' (Fontana) really not sure what 'favorite' means anymore, but I'm pretty sure those five have been on deck the most in the last 20 or so years and especially the first ten or so of those years.
  17. you'd be right. It's fine but not necessary if you're fiending for other music as well. Wooley the Newt is better.
  18. Steven McCraven - Intertwining Spirits - (Freelance, FR) with Sam Rivers and TK Blue. Not bad.
  19. East New York Ensemble de Music - At the Helm - (Folkways orig)
  20. Huh.
  21. Yeah, at least one got the Delmark treatment - Eddie "Clean Head" Vinson's Kidney Stew is Fine.
  22. The name sounds familiar and, like Paul, I'd like to know more too.
  23. The only Chris Woods LP I own is one on Futura, paired with his sideman appearance with Ted Curson on Marge, and both are excellent sides. I'd gladly pick up a stack of Black & Blue LPs if I saw them, but you don't encounter their releases over here all that much... at least these days.
  24. I've only seen it on LP. Usually goes for around $30-$40. It was part of the Denon-PCM series.
