Agreed, love the first one in particular. Now, something I forgot I owned... No Neck Blues Band - Ever Borneo! - (Sound at One, US) holds up better than I thought it would.
Benny Bailey, Nathan Davis & Co. - Soul Eyes: Live at the Domicile Munich - (MPS, Japan, orig gatefold) A friend in Japan sent this my way - really swell record, sounds beautiful. Hadn't really heard much of this one before now.
I'm wracking my brain on this one too. Jimmy Hopps and Tootie Heath were both over there in the '60s/'70s but returned to the US, and Heath is still active.
yeah, I just have old files from dime; not sure if the CD set is cleaned up in any way. The cuts I have are riddled with dropouts and fuzz, which may have been on the tapes.
Rob Agerbeek - great Dutch pianist; listening to him with Dexter right now. Though in his heyday he was known as one of Europe's finest in the post-bop mold, I think his name may be off of most folks' radar.
Sonny Rollins - Our Man In Jazz - (RCA-Victor, stereo og) Picked up a nice copy of this recently and it's great to hear the LP as programmed. I used to have an old, abused copy long ago but this sounds wonderful. Going against my usual anti-boot approach I may pick up the recent CD boxed set to tide over until someone does an authorized version. So much great music from that stand at the Gate.
^ yeah, I remember hearing her years and years ago (my dad's a fan) and I wasn't particularly taken. Then I heard her more recently and I was impressed. Maybe my tastes have changed, maybe she's gotten more complex, I'm not sure.
I don't know much about Christian McBride, other than the fact that he can play the bass quite well, but if he's encouraging some 'mouldy fig' line in 2015, that's pretty lame. There's been enough music before and since McBride was born for him to know better.
This is my favorite Jack Wilson album out of the ones I've heard. Similar quartet on Ramblin', which was on Vault, and that too is excellent. I don't get as excited about Easterly Winds as some people do.
Probably has one long mark that clicks on two of five tracks. Or, scattered light marks but no groove wear. That's a good record; mine has a pink and black cover, and there's a red-and-green one (shades of Song For) that is pretty sick looking.
