  1. I hear you. And that Wes material is just a teaser for a complete set that will be coming out in another year or so (IIRC).
  2. That's some line up. Wish I'd been there. In fact, I just wish I'd been aware of Braxton at that time JohnS has some nice ephemera - I got a Cadentia Nova Danica handbill from him that's very cool.
  3. I wouldn't go to the record store the weekend prior expecting too much out of the ordinary. One can't buy RSD releases before RSD. Full stop. In the few days prior the used stock might get fleshed out a bit, and in that case you might get some good come ups, but in my experience (and as you surmise) the flood doesn't hit the bins until the night before and the "day of" is really when the most pulls happen.
  4. Indeed, RT. Did any of those live dates in St. Paul (MN) with Phil Hey ever come out?
  5. ^ That looks like it would be good.
  6. I only have a few; the Carlos Ward Quartet w/ Woody Shaw and Amina Claudine Myers' Song For Mother E are both pretty excellent.
  7. From '92, this is pretty solid: http://www.discogs.com/Ed-Blackwell-Trio-Walls-Bridges/release/4294273
  8. I liked seeing these pieces performed at Roulette, but haven't heard the disc. Considering my ability to keep up, or lack thereof, I probably won't. I super dig those early LPs from Minnesota. I can't remember if you're into psych, but all those late 60s/70s Michael Yonkers LPs are excellent. I believe he is credited with production or engineering on at least one of Fine's LPs.
  9. Tried to but our HBO Go streaming was really spotty - probably because so many people were trying to view it. Seemed like it had potential to be interesting. Caught one shot of our man Chick in the front row as Cruise was doing some rallying.
  10. Nothing is spoilt on the CD issue. The original LP presentation still stands, and the extra tracks are very cool.
  11. Indeed, good player - saw him live once or twice - though I haven't delved too deeply into his discography either. He led that Vibration Society Rahsaan tribute group, IIRC.
  12. Amazon lists it as temporarily out of stock. I remember there being a lot of press when this thing came out.
  13. I thought Karyobin was getting reissued in the next year or two as well.
  14. Kora Manding: Mandinka Music of the Gambia - (Ethnodisc, US)
  15. He vacuums up a lot of junk, though there are bound to be gems in there somewhere. But yeah, loads of dollar bin whatever gets boxed up and sent to him for some sort of weird "museum" he's conjuring.
  16. yeah, others didn't really stick for me either.
  17. Bunch of tracks from the record on YouTube. It was on CD some years ago too, if memory serves. Good record, although I think it is eclipsed by some of his subsequent work.
  18. Those early-ish Gunter Hampel records noted above are indeed excellent. The one on Wergo is a corker too.
  19. Indeed. The Pentangle blew me away the first time I heard them. RIP.
  20. Coltrane and Ayler both put me to sleep - their music is like a lullaby, without fail. Even things like Ascension.
  21. The R&B part at the end of "Machine Gun" is quite groovy! One of the few times that a stomping, lead-footed backbeat has worked in European free music. I'd actually say that earlier Brötzmann, as with a lot of that music's ilk, is just as "swinging" as contemporaries in the US.
  22. Cecil's music isn't usually impenetrable. It's pretty groovy.
