  1. I'll add swirly straw to that list, then.
  2. True, forgot about that disc on Tzadik. He's got an interesting concept going now, though I must admit his group playing ca. 1966-1970 is really quite something.
  3. I thought it was way OOP.
  4. "The Dirlston Dirler" is my pick, even if it is a duo.
  5. Yeah, they're lame. I would assume that they took too long to pay for their first order so the label said "fuck 'em." The CDR thing is nausea-inducing. Also, I'm told that back in the day Billy Bang used to pass out matchbooks with his name, number and an image of his mug on them. Would love to have that bit of ephemera.
  6. OP: you're never alone.
  7. For some reason have never had the McCall duets, which is absurd to realize.
  8. Have not listened to much Pee Wee Russell and need to rectify that. Listening to the Moodsville on the stoney-phones right now and it's glorious!
  9. Yes, this is a beautiful record. I'm also all for Brötzmann solo, especially 14 Love Poems but there are other excellent ones as well. Generally put brass in another category from wind instruments but there are of course no peers to this:
  10. ^ yeah, I'm thinking that other than the Japanese pressing on Trio, this is my option for hearing the Hush sessions on LP. The recent Think! pressing of Angel Eyes is kinda crappy. Wish there was an earlier affordable pressing to compare (as the Polydor is a little out of my league).
  11. I'm extremely fond of this one: I have a hard time choosing among the Braxton soli, though the ones I have skew toward the earlier end - Delmark, America, Arista, Futura. Hard also to choose a Lacy solo as there are so many stupendous ones. Solo at Mandara is really nice (have only heard it - don't own a physical copy). Cycles is one I've been spending time with lately - partly including duets with a dancer - and it's quite wonderful as well. Need to check out that Silkheart disc as the only sets of his on that label that I know are ensemble.
  12. only 100 of the repress or only 100 of the orig? that Bobby Jones that Dan picked up is excellent, and I'm sure the rest of the haul was equally good. I have several Phineas LPs but not the one on Fantasy.
  13. Mal Waldron - Les Nuits de la Negritude - (Powertree/Black Lion JP)
  14. The Contemporary Jazz Quartet feat. Sunny Murray - Action - (Debut, DK)
  15. Text interview in the Simmons is by me, audio interview is by Michael Anderson, who conducted all other audio interviews included on those discs (from what he told me). I think those should've been separate discs or downloadable audio files myself, but whatever.
  16. will have to check Dixonia on that - I know a lot (but not all, thankfully) of the 1960s material from Bill's tape archive was lost in the early '70s due to an unpaid/payment screw up with a storage unit.
  17. François Tusques - Intercommunal Music - (Shandar, FR)
  18. uh...
  19. looking forward to what comes of it all. Even unrealized ideas can also lead to something.
  20. Set 1/Set 2 ?
  21. yeah that's a good one. I asked MD about reissuing it and his opinion was "meh."
  22. The sound on the original Savoy is far from "crisp" - the levels seem off - but it's a hell of a date.
  23. I think there will be a CD set as well, at least that was the initial hope.
