  1. Shepp's solo on "C Jam Blues" definitely made me smile. Would've been fun to witness the whole concert, even with a messy "Divertimento and Crescendo."
  2. Surgal has been working on this for over a decade - should be interesting when it comes out. He seems like a good dude as well as being an excellent musician.
  3. Damn. What a life he and Lucille lived.
  4. Rava is also on Lacy's Roba (Saravah), which I'd completely spaced on.
  5. also Sortie on GTA.
  6. yeah, it's a good one, although I do prefer the Horo and of course his work with Lacy.
  7. Haha. Yeah, I've heard some more recent stuff in concert and wasn't moved by it, but the early stuff is definitely strong.
  8. Yeah, indeed, that Zs box is heavy. As are the Reed discs and a lot of things here – excellent. Just not enough space or time anymore.
  9. Nice one! Great package but I must admit I have not played my copy in over 10 years... It's heavy though I suppose at the end of the day, all their records, whether duos or ensembles, are "of a piece."
  10. Brötzmann/Bennink - Atsugi Concert - (Gua-Bungue, JP)
  11. Gilbert Holmström - Utan Misstankar - (Megafon, SWE)
  12. There are a few things on hold but the following are available: Zs - Score: The Complete Sextet Works 2002-2007 - (Northern Spy) 4 CDs barcode marked out Confusion Bleue - Roulette Concert - (Ictus) Stowe, Sage, Bonadonna, Pembleton, Kelsey Marty Krystall Quartet - Moments Magical - (K2B2) Francois Raulin - Trois Plans sur la Comete - (Hatology) Corneloup, Chevillon Adam Rudolph's Moving Pictures - Both/And - (Meta) Adam Rudolph's Moving Pictures - Dream Garden - (Justin Time) Adam Rudolph's Go Organic Orchestra - Thought Forms - (Meta) Sten Sandell - Music in the World Of - (LJ) piano, voice, electronic Tyshawn Sorey - Oblique 1 - (Pi) I'll get these out the door at $25 shipped if anyone is interested. Zs are an experimental, saxophone-based ensemble in a rugged, repetitive "New Music" vein but entirely worth hearing.
  13. Time to get rid of some promos and other stuff. All discs very lightly played and with all their paper bits. Anything that had a jewel case has been sleeved. PM to reserve, paypal only. 1-3 discs ship free in the US. extra discs at a small cost. international at cost. No long holds please.
  14. haha bet I can beat that!
  15. This has the better cover but "Showboat" also on Time, is the better album. "Jazz Contemporary" is decent enough but I play "Showboat" much more frequently. I've an Oriole pressing of the latter, which is really not a great pressing. Just a bit fuzzy and unfocused. Used to have a fairly crackly copy of Jazz Contemporary - I couldn't get into it but probably couldn't get past the surface noise either. If I could find cheap clean copies of both, I'd give 'em a shot.
  16. What book are you speaking of, Jim? Would be interested to learn more about Mr. Jones.
  17. It's definitely got a few errant analog poots, that is for sure. They are minimal so I don't care too much, not to mention the fact that my hearing sucks anyway.
  18. not to beat a dead Hum Dono, but the recent CD sounds like a needle-drop, or at least made from a tape copy of a virginal LP. I'm fine with keeping the CD at this point, really. It's an excellent record that sounds good, and there are many others more deserving of a re-buy/upgrade/whatever. And then there's music made by living people...
  19. Wrote the publicist as I'd be interested in getting a copy to review. In any case, I'll be checking this out. Congrats. Side note: my honors undergrad thesis (1999-2000) was written on spirituality in Afro-American free music, specifically Coltrane, Ayler and Braxton. Don't have a copy anymore, alas.
  20. yeah, you'd think they might even be able to be president someday...
  21. yeah, I'd like to get a copy of Eronel too - just not for more than $100.
  22. I'm amazed that this label hasn't been dealt with in any concerted way as far as reissues go. There's so much excellent stuff in the catalog. My understanding is that Sinesio didn't want his titles reissued in any form, but I suppose that could change depending on what the family wants to do with it.
  23. The Mouloudjis sound pretty good, as do a couple of my Pathés. Come to think of it, a number of the Americas and Saravahs from the '70s also sound fine.
  24. Why would that be? Just curious. My understanding is that he is more interested in the "now" and the "future" than the past. He's also been very wary of record companies, with the exception of Tzadik, and the idea that someone may profit from his work (other than him or his students). He's certainly not the only musician who has felt that way.
  25. think I just have a 70s pressing, albeit mint. You can send all your spares to me, ha!
