  1. Yes. Understanding is also excellent.
  2. Siegfried Kessler - Solaire - (Futura, FR) w/ the great Stu Martin on drums.
  3. It's a cool record and I enjoy it, but it's not a shoe-in for me either. I feel the same way about all the Garbarek/Rypdal LPs from that early era - really, really strong but not with that extra "oomph." Til Vigdis is pretty sick, but it may be harder to find a license for (early private pressing) and a level of common interest.
  4. The fact that I finally busted the styrofoam insert on the Cecil Taylor in Berlin box on FMP is kind of amazing when you think about it. As a completist, this cracked styrofoam is incredibly irritating and pisses me off. Clearly I need another glass of wine to relax.

  5. Stereolab = Neu! + National Health + Catherine Ribiero/Alpes + Alan Stivell + Doug Yule's Velvet Underground.
  6. Whoa. That vibe is really up my alley. Would love to hear it. Now: Rolf & Joachim Kühn - Transfiguration - (Saba)
  7. Interesting that Iannis Xenakis' name wasn't mentioned once in the Le Corbusier exhibition at MoMA...

  8. Bought my copy of Rufus at Academy in the Village years ago. I think it was $50, which didn't seem bad for a clean Dutch original. Bought Touching in the field as well, in Paris. Both about a dozen years ago; I don't know whether that would happen these days.
  9. The Tchicai is real nice. Love Howard Riley and RED Trio in general, so these should be pretty good. Curious about the Dean/Dunmall.
  10. OH my LORD! Would this one work better for you? Ha - wasn't Aric using Larry and Balki as his avatar? I can't remember... The Cry is one of my all time favorite jazz records. Glad you dig it and welcome to the board.
  11. Wonderful set of music from Evan Parker, Okkyung Lee and Peter Evans at the stone tonight, recorded for hopeful/eventual release by Jeremiah Cymerman. However, afterwards I could absolutely not get "The Flame" by Cheap Trick out of my head and it's pretty much stayed that way. Go figure.

  12. Yeah, great set. Wish my box didn't have quite the amount of shelf wear, but it's holding together.
  13. Sad to hear that we've lost bassoonist Lindsay Cooper, guitarist Jimmy Ponder, and alto saxophonist Bernie McGann in a matter of days. Please check out their wonderful music, as it's what remains.

  14. Only know the Emanem LPs but I dig them quite a bit. Sad to hear he's passed. Looking forward to reading Mr. Litweiler's piece but my eyelids are preventing it at the moment...
  15. I have that disc and it's excellent.
  16. So Monday marked my first full day as the Archives Manager (lead archivist) for the Byrd Hoffman WaterMill Foundation, the arts foundation/center founded by theatre director and visual artist Robert Wilson. Having just started I can say that it totally rules - tons of inspiring art, manuscripts and artefacts, and I'm beginning to see already what has to be done versus what has already been done. There are bigger problems in the world than facebook not allowing me to precisely alter my "job" t...

  17. Sad to hear this if it's true.
  18. Did they correct the discographical errors in the box?
  19. Frank Lowe - Exotic Heartbreak - (Soul Note)
  20. An oldie but a goody: Anthony Braxton - 3 Compositions of New Jazz - (Delmark orig)
  21. Steve Reid - Nova - (Mustevic)
  22. Yup, real low-level popping, slightly below the music's level. Weird. I guess with a better amp and cartridge on my stereo in recent years, stuff like this is more pronounced...
  23. I've got the Japanese 80s press of Disposability and haven't listened to it in years. Don't remember the clipping, so I've got it on deck to see what is up. Have had the original GTA pressing of Sortie for many years and always thought it sounded great, if a fairly "hot" recording.
