  2. Moby Grape - Wow - (Columbia 2-eye stereo)
  3. Mimi & Richard Farina - Celebrations for a Grey Day - (Vanguard)
  4. Maybe an Alan Shorter Orgasm/Tes Esat twofer is en route?
  5. Bee Gees - Odessa - (Atco) There's a first time for hearing everything, I suppose. This is brilliant.
  6. Enjoyable ride today with Kyle Eberle until I double-flatted and had to schlep my bike and self home on the G. Going too hard on the cobbles, I guess...

  7. So I guess indie rock is dead? I just walked by a dude in a trucker hat and a tattooed chick talking about the merits of Skrillex.

  8. Just got emails from Frode Gjerstad and from my editor at the NYC Jazz Record that pianist Borah Bergman has died. He was 78. A player I respected, even if I didn't listen to him often.
  9. Rapeman - Budd - (Touch & Go)
  10. A night of giants - just learning of David S. Ware's passing. Heavy vibe watching the Jemeel Moondoc Quartet perform earlier, and a subsequent nice conversation with Kalaparusha in the subway. Makes me think of Muhal's great title, "Things to come from those now gone."

  11. I just found out about this. Holy shit. RIP, and thanks for the music/life. Man.
  12. Cohelmec Ensemble - Next - (Saravah)
  13. Albert Mangelsdorff - Folk Mond & Flower Dream - (CBS)
  14. Bill Dixon & Archie Shepp - Quartet - (Savoy)
  15. Other birthdays: Anita O'Day (1919) Bill Stewart (1966) Bobby Troup (1918) Myron Walden (1972) Chuck Berry (1926) Bent Jaedig (1935) J.C. Moses (1936)
  16. Willem van Manen - s/t - (BVHaast) solos, duos w/ Misja Mengelberg, and trios w/ Harry Miller and Martin van Duynhoven. Nice stuff.
  17. He's also done some artwork for Kendra Steiner Editions CD-Rs (the label has some interesting stuff). I only knew him from Noah's record otherwise, and will definitely seek out the Circus Maximus stuff (I like a lot of those oddball Vanguard jazz-rock-psych LPs).
  18. Frank Wright - Your Prayer - (ESP) Now, something a little calmer: Joe Lee Wilson & Bond Street - What Would it Be without You? - (Survival)
  19. Congrats to Kevin Shea and Lesaew Retlaw / UgEXPLODE Records for their wins in the VV Best of NY polls. Now, if that means paying gigs & selling records, I'm all for it.

  20. Never got into Hot Snakes for whatever reason, though I tried... Now: High Rise - 2 - (Squealer)
  21. Indeedy. Both of their LPs are great, really.
  22. Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime - (Headhunter)
  23. Bitch Magnet - Umber - (Communion)
