  1. Great girlfriend moments: "Speaking of communism, Cliffy, did you know that Cardew's Great Learning is being performed here?" This lady retains information about weird music. She actually brought up Cardew nearly unprovoked.

  2. Just FYI, the LP is limited to 300 but the CD is much more available. He'll be playing the US coasts in April and May - West first, then East. More details soon.
  3. The Dickerson is swell. I didn't pay much for it either but it was more than $8.
  4. Agreed, love the music but it's rough-sounding in spots.
  5. Yup.
  6. Good one. Used to have it but my beater copy got let go before the "big move." Kept a minty UFO (orig) that I got for like $15 years ago, though!
  7. ^ Yeah, just got that Mezei but haven't spun it yet. Looks interesting.
  8. Wish I could attend. Stuck in NYC with obligations up here. All: give my love to Alvin, please.
  9. Those UK Vogue pressings are nice - at least the ones I have.
  10. Granicus - s/t - (RCA-Victor)
  11. To those whom I communicate with regularly on here: my facebook messaging is all fucked up and I'm tired of these infernal suggested posts/ads. For the time being, please send me email instead if there's a need for quick and reasoned response. ericleofdolphi [AT] gmail [duht] com - thanks.

  12. Nothing shows up for me, Clifford. And when I try to go to properties, the images that come up are too small for me to figure out. Huh; it's fine for me here... anyway, Billy Bang & Charles Tyler "Live at Green Space" duo on Anima, if it's still invisible. AMM are pretty far from "jazz" but if you're willing to cast that net, sure... a lot of Company recordings and at least half of the Bead Records catalogue would also fit.
  13. Thanks; I think groove can/does enter into Milford's music, but the way he works in this band is/was more subversive. The music can certainly be heard and read a number of ways, too!
  14. Ritual All 770 - s/t - (ESP-Disk)
  15. If you want to at least read about the NYAQ set, you can do so fairly in depth here: Point of Departure
  16. Oh yes, of course [slaps forehead]. He's also part of Ted Daniel's International Brass & Membrane Corps, which is a contemporary reimagining of the music of King Oliver and well worth experiencing. Hopefully they record an album soon; the live performances have been wonderful.
  17. Ben Stapp. This is excellent, though he's already moved on to some other interesting directions. Bill Dixon worked with tubist John Buckingham on the Thoughts and Son of Sisyphus albums, which are included in the Soul Note Dixon box.
  18. The Monty Waters is real good. Some of these I have on India Navigation (the Freeman, Abrams and Air LPs). I'd like to hear the Donald Smith and also the second Dickerson (never saw that on LP, actually).
  19. Masahiko Sato/Gary Peacock/Motohiko Hino - Samadhi - (Toshiba Express)
  20. Anybody in NY know if there's a record store with a VPI or similar cleaning machine? I need to get a few of the babies washed...

  21. Never saw that cover before. Different from the old LP I used to have or the CD I have now. Evidently changed to cash in on his Columbia popularity. Just picked this up in mint condition at a thrift for $1.50. From what I read it's a 70's reissue. Nice sounding vinyl. I'm already familiar with the material. Great stuff. Originally on New Jazz, IIRC. Quite individual vibes work from Al Francis, who in the mid-1980s made a fine trio record "Jazz Bohemia Revisited "on an obscure label Lost Cosmic Unity with bassist John Neves and drummer Joe Hunt. And here it is, mirable dictu: http://www.myspace.com/jazzbohemia One of my all time favorites, that Ellis record. I have it on the New Jazz pressing.
  22. I need to give this one a spin. I liked the preceding disc by this quartet a lot (even tho usually not a Ducret nut).
