  1. This is nice.
  2. One of the problems with the German WEA issue is the sound. The rhythm section is barely audible in spots. But I've not heard any other version to compare. I've not listened to the Contemporaries lately but my recollection is that they are preferable. How are the RCAs?
  3. I've always liked the original cover image but never gave the LP a listen - I think because I'd heard it wasn't that good of a record. Only Phineas I own/have spent time with is either on Contemporary or New Jazz.
  4. Oh right, the Arni Cheatham - forgot about that one. Great stuff. If you can't afford or don't want to commit to the Eremite box (w/ diff. material), the Porter Juma set is a fine intro.
  5. First Actuel series LP I ever bought.
  6. Yeah, I like the Bynum/Morris/Schoenbeck too. Also the Wooley/Lonberg-Holm/Roebke. I don't know how long the sale will go on but since the dude & his family are moving house it might be more than two weeks. Just sayin'.
  7. Heikki Sarmanto (pretty much anything), Ted Daniel "Tapestry," Louie Belogenis/Mike Bisio/Sunny Murray (I wrote the notes), Po Band, Warren Smith, Juma. The reissued jazz titles tend to be somewhat stronger than the new releases but for like $5 or whatever, no complaints. I don't know much of the electronic/experimental stuff he's put out though the acoustic/electro-acoustic discs from Katherine Young and Andrew Raffo Dewar are excellent.
  8. Porterrecords.com No special code needed, all stock is game.
  9. Yeah, wish I had the King of it, just a ratty and ringworn double LP US version.
  10. Looking forward to this.
  11. Larry Coryell - Spaces - (Vanguard Apostolic)
  12. Alice Coltrane - A Monastic Trio - (Impulse stereo og)
  13. The "Golden Circle" dates say "produced by Francis Wolff," but I think that (and Chuck or someone else can correct me on this) they were just picked up/released by Blue Note. Right - because of the Town Hall debacle, they needed something to fill contract slots IIRC.
  14. Those Vogue Contemporary & Pacific Jazz titles sound great.
  15. Shoji Aketagawa - Erotical Piano Solo and Grotesque Trio - (Aketa's Disk/Offbeat) Despite the title, the solo sounds like a freer Dollar Brand and is pretty excellent. Edit: second side gets into some heavy '70s Mal-isms. Recommended.
  16. I have the pre-release review CD-R (it's great - words forthcoming), but any idea how much the wax is fetching?
  17. So... think Wiggins will drop those sideburns for the 2013 tours?
  18. Misja Mengelberg Kwartet - As Featured at the Newport Jazz Festival 1966 - (Artone)
  19. Originally on Horo vinyl as Body & Soul and Jazz a Confronto 27, IIRC. Not authorized in any way.
  20. UK and German Mercury versions had the same image but without the black border. I see you kept a few vinyls!
  21. I have For the Guv'nor and it's excellent. My other Ben from the period is sans Slinger. Later Ben is something else. That Westside looks cool, too.
  22. Barre Phillips - Basse Barre - (Futura)
  23. Noah Howard - The Black Ark - (Polydor/Freedom)
