  1. Thanks for the reminder on the new site. Gotta get on it!
  2. I actually liked some of their stuff, and those Nesmith LPs on RCA-Victor are quite good. Sure, Jones was a lesser talent in the group, but still - sad news. RIP.
  3. This thread is getting into hair-splitting territory. A 3CD set of the Joe Daley Trio may not sell out as quickly as the Hemphill, but it'll sell and I hope that Jonathan puts it out in the expanded format. In the meantime it looks like we have some excellent work from Clare Fischer and Jeremy Steig to keep us happy.
  4. I don't think of Nirvana as a stunt, just a band. Always preferred Mudhoney. Whatever the Pistols were, PiL was/is a hundred times better (at least).
  5. I didn't even know there was an Eddie Daniels LP on Prestige. He's someone I've heard and liked, but never really investigated. Fuck me.
  6. Archie Shepp's Four For Trane in mono. I know this LP like the back of my hand and yet it never ceases to amaze me.

  7. Actually, not all the solos on Nonaah are that out, if memory serves. There's also the beautiful, brief "Solo" from Old/Quartet.
  8. I can't believe I'm saying this, but what about doing a slimmer single-disc version and then including in the package a link to the FLACs of the rest of the material? Or streaming on the SoundCloud site? I mean, as a bit of a collector myself the three-disc idea is attractive, but I understand why it might not be feasible to 1,500 people. Then again, finding answers to these questions (among many other scenarios) is why people like me don't try to run a record label.
  9. I've always really liked the LP and am more than curious to hear more.
  10. To me, $50 seems like the benchmark, but another $10 isn't going to keep me away.
  11. Wow - looking forward to all of these.
  12. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make a purchase enquiry.
  13. Excellent, excellent LP! Still haven't sourced the "original" (and its beautiful cover) but the 70s press sounds good enough for me. It's a shame this wonderful album isn't better known. Of the several Gaslini LPs I own, this is probably the most fully-realized sounding. Here's the original front cover artwork:
  14. Alvin Fielder had a band in Jackson, MS in the '70s/early 80s called Mobitra. Mo-Bi-Tra: Monk, Bird, Trane. I love that name for a band. Carry on.
  15. Indeed!
  16. I'm surprised this reissue didn't receive more fanfare when it came out last year. Only just learnt of the CD's existence, though I've had the LP for some time and it's a great, fist-pumping jam.
  17. The record has really grown on me. Can't wait to see the Friday gig in Austin.
  18. On the air with The Cutting Edge - KOOP 91.7 FM in about 45 minutes. Some Tim Berne and related material in advance of next Friday's concert.

  19. Awaiting the next Mary Halvorson album reminds me of the days (pre-Internet) when I'd wonder when the new Sonic Youth or related album would be released. In a sea of new music, much of it excellent, this is a special thing indeed. And yeah, I just put it on.

  20. Is it just me or is it hot in here? Or is it this massive new accession blocking the airflow?

  21. Other Dudeks as a leader: Open, on FMP, with Buschi Niebergall and Edward Vesala (1977) and another co-led session w/ Takehiro Honda (p) called Flying to the Sky (Trio, 1971). Gerd Dudek is great.
  22. Too bad it's "inessential" because the players listed make it sound pretty interesting. Fagerstedt is on Stockholm Dues, which is a fucking great album.
  23. I'm not against the project. Seems like far more dubious projects have been "kickstarted" in the past couple of years.
  24. Nice finds, would love to have that Horo for the right price.
  25. Ah, never had that one though I do dig Wallin. I bet his large ensemble writing is "stewy."
