  1. Cool - thanks for the tip. I love Anthony Ortega's music. There's also this transcribed oral history, which is incredible.
  2. Nice stuff - I don't have the one with Scott, but I do have Koncert v Lublani and the Japo LP, both of which are great. Dasek is an amazing musician, and Stivin is just the "tits" as they say. Especially on the SHQ LPs. His Five Hits in a Row with Barre Phillips is also worth hearing.
  3. Great one - I just have a Fresh Sound LP of this (wish it was at least a legit Cadet, but oh well).
  4. Nice blog - passed it along.
  5. That Diz footage is sweet.
  6. The Futura and Marge catalogs yield a lot of deep stuff. Well worth dipping into both the old and the new.
  7. Thanks y'all! Had a wonderful weekend in San Antonio with my girlfriend. I hadn't been, and it was kind of a surprise trip for me.
  8. Tony Coe, Tony Oxley, and Chris Laurence - Nutty (on) Wilisau - (Hat Hut)
  9. First issue was on Dutch/UK Fontana. Second was on UK Freedom/German Intercord I believe.
  10. Wasn't sure where else to post this, but apparently Edward Ayler (father to Albert & Don) has died. link. Also, the short remembrance on the memorial page (linked through the above) is by Tony Shy. I wonder if Tony is a relative of Clyde Shy?
  11. I have the Shandars and though it's been some time since they've gotten spins, I have fond memories of sitting thru the set at cranked volume in college. I can understand your criticism of the fact that some parts didn't always fit together right, and will have to listen to it with that in mind sometime. The Cecil-Cyrille duets are what always really struck me.
  12. Gosh, which ones did they have? I can't think of a record store I've walked into in the last 10 years with more than one Sam Rivers CD. Crystals and all the Blue Note CDs.
  13. Yeah, I like that one a lot. Review for those who are curious.
  14. Street team don't care. Street team don't give a fuck.
  15. Was at the record store yesterday and moved all of their Sam Rivers CDs up onto the jazz wall. Luckily they had several in stock.
  16. I like the old stuff - not enough to hold on to any of the LPs, but I appreciate him as an important musical figure who did some neat stuff at one time. Seems like a cool guy; the Ronnie Ross story was a hoot!
  17. A little piece I did on some more recently-uncovered Rodd Keith song poem music. He's one of the great interpreters of this genre.
  18. 1923 is correct. I would certainly assume Rivers' playing crossed over to European musicians in the '60s, but Dimensions & Extensions didn't see release until the later 1970s (as part of that twofer), by which point the sound of people like Brotzmann, Dudek, Wanders, etc. had been established.
  19. Great photo, brownie! Yeah, a musician that it took me some time to really appreciate but I think the best music often doesn't hit you right away.
  20. ESP-Disk, especially considering the label/cover variations, etc., can be a really fascinating endeavor. Most original titles can be had for well under $100. Other mentions here I'd certainly second or third. Also... Muse India Navigation Verve Jazztone Atlantic
  21. Oh my god. RIP.
  22. How's the sound quality? Friedman & LaRoca make a nice team.
