  1. Alvin's recollections of meeting Roscoe were pretty awesome - comparable to what I imagine the images of Ornette or Ayler in the clubs during the early days were like. Unpacking his horn to sit in, blowing some things that were deemed pretty far-out by most of the locals, packing back up and leaving without many words.
  2. Whether or not Monjack was a douchebag, the loss of his wife clearly had its consequences on his physical well-being. Not the first time such a thing has happened. Like I have said previously, I had a genuine fondness for Ms. Murphy and her work, and was saddened to hear of her death. RIP to both of them.
  3. It was also panned in Paris Transatlantic. It was not panned in Signal To Noise.
  4. Not all of Kate B's records are great, but the first one definitely is in my book. Fine sound on the UK EMI pressing, too. Considering her music's sound, I would imagine her to be an audiophile. It is also impossible to argue one thing (this from the Japanese edition):
  5. Many and thanks for all you do, Jim.
  6. Really hard to find them in good nick.
  7. Jean 'Toots' Thielmans 'Man Bites Harmonica' (Japanese Riverside) Often drive through there... Yeah, my listening was a little schizoid last night. After Kate Bush I put on Graham Collier!
  8. Yeah, there have been a few of those circulating. I have seen one of Blue John also. I'm not convinced that every later-issued title had been primed for release, sequenced, and given a test pressing in the 1960s.
  9. Was there a Liberty test pressing of this one? I've seen them for the Sam Rivers "Dimensions & Extensions," Hubbard "Here To Stay," etc., but not this title. Fred Cohen might be a lead.
  10. Kate Bush - The Kick Inside - (EMI UK orig)
  11. Fantastic. Gotta call Alvin this week on other matters, will be expressing joy that it'll be possible to finally hear this music. FWIW, has anybody here tried a Kickstarter campaign online? Considering how tied-in a lot of us are with facebook and social media, it might be a good way to get dough raised for projects like this. I know bands who use it to raise money for releasing LPs, etc.
  12. Yeah, not an easy hike for me, either, but I wish you luck on the gigs. Sounds up my alley.
  13. Bonzo Dog Band - Keynsham - (Imperial)
  14. A quick hit on Popsike for some of that Tiger Lily catalog, and the stuff gets pretty expensive nowadays...
  15. up - anyone? I think I paid $15 for a 1st stereo Liberty, but that was a few years ago. Not a bad date.
  16. Mal Waldron - The Quest - (NJ mono/Prestige blue label)
  17. I enjoy hearing the alternates but don't obsess over them; if I was a musician or a musicologist analyzing the solos of Player X across versions of "Stardust" they naturally might have a little more bearing. I'll admit to having a hard time with the inclusion of false starts or truncated cuts on discs and those being counted as "alternates."
  18. Cool story. Unless they mix it up with some unique bands, however, I can see something like this being just fine in a three or five disc set.
  19. Frank Rosolino - Quintet - (Mode jacket, Premier wax)
  20. Happy birthday, Chuck, and thanks for doing all that you do.
  21. I enjoy Ballads for Bass Clarinet. Also his work with Dave Burrell, in general, has been pretty satisfying.
