  1. Something is definitely a strong one. I like Bridge Over Troubled Water (arr. Masahiko Sato), By the Red Stream, and Head Rock quite well. Dosojin is one I picked up but need to spend more time with:
  2. Both. Counterfeits have been a thing for decades, although they're easier to document now. Alterations have also been made to later reissues and sometimes these are passed off as originals to undiscerning buyers. And I'm positive some fake hand-colored/hand-painted Sun Ras have been going around... in other words, stock older Ra LPs decorated recently by record sellers.
  3. I assumed it would have some sway, given the fact that the Stones, Zep, and Peter Green among others mined the hell out of it!
  4. I am told that the Japanese saxophonist and bandleader has died at age 90 (3 Oct 1925 – 18 Jan 2024). The Soul Media LPs that HMV reissued over the last several years range from very enjoyable to positively excellent. RIP
  5. many, and for as long as I can remember...
  6. I'm hearing unfortunate reports from his collaborators that the saxophonist Wally Shoup has died. He has been a mainstay of the Seattle area improvised music community since the 1980s. Shoup was in Birmingham before that, playing and recording with La Donna Smith and Davey Williams, and I believe former board member Jeff Crompton knew him from a stint in Atlanta. I never saw Shoup play but always found his music on disc fascinating. RIP.
  7. Would rather have it on CD and to that end, a CD box with all of the performances from that run.
  8. Wow. I was unable to be in the city for X and regret that immensely. I hope it gets a revival but of course that will take years.
  9. so stupid yet so funny.
  10. Nice! My wife usually goes for the steel-string guitar soli or the folk blues/ragtime sections.
  11. Never really gave much thought to Peterson beyond what to me felt like an entirely mechanical approach to playing. Daniel A mentioned upthread the fact that he was releasing albums on MPS and honestly, that fact probably kept their rich and weird catalog funded... An ex-girlfriend of mine's father was very into OP, dazzled by him, and was also a huge fan of later Return To Forever. I think it was the technical aspects of the playing that he was into, more than anything else.
  12. Great, great record. He was totally serious, but in this music, certainly falls within the range of "outsider artists." Glad he was here to do what he did.
  13. Hell yes, Bookman is the shit.
  14. absolutely true. I've definitely known some Larry David types.
  15. So Winstone had the tapes from Decca? Interesting. I suppose given all that Vocalion reissued from the Argo/Decca catalog, that wasn't one of them so perhaps she kept the masters. Nice! Have a 70s Vedette pressing with different cover art. Superb album.
  16. Wonder if the Wah Wah reissue was licensed from UMG? Would assume they'd hold the rights rather than Norma herself. I always assumed it was an MP3-to-vinyl release but don't have one to compare to the original, which sounds very nice.
  17. I definitely remember him from at least one 90s sitcom as well as some stand up specials. Probably would appreciate him a lot more now, actually. Never really watched Curb -- I find Larry David so insufferable as to be unwatchable. I thought Seinfeld was aggravating too but at least the ensemble could offset it somewhat.
  18. whatever Allen does, count me in!
  19. yup, excellent! I have the Argo LP, which replaced a dim-sounding Disconforme CD reissue/bootleg.
  20. Thanks; yes, of course -- Jazz På Svenska! Beautiful album, had it on deck just recently. The Swedish film/theatre environment is not something I know too well, but appreciate the insight.
