  1. Never really gave much thought to Peterson beyond what to me felt like an entirely mechanical approach to playing. Daniel A mentioned upthread the fact that he was releasing albums on MPS and honestly, that fact probably kept their rich and weird catalog funded... An ex-girlfriend of mine's father was very into OP, dazzled by him, and was also a huge fan of later Return To Forever. I think it was the technical aspects of the playing that he was into, more than anything else.
  2. Great, great record. He was totally serious, but in this music, certainly falls within the range of "outsider artists." Glad he was here to do what he did.
  3. Hell yes, Bookman is the shit.
  4. absolutely true. I've definitely known some Larry David types.
  5. So Winstone had the tapes from Decca? Interesting. I suppose given all that Vocalion reissued from the Argo/Decca catalog, that wasn't one of them so perhaps she kept the masters. Nice! Have a 70s Vedette pressing with different cover art. Superb album.
  6. Wonder if the Wah Wah reissue was licensed from UMG? Would assume they'd hold the rights rather than Norma herself. I always assumed it was an MP3-to-vinyl release but don't have one to compare to the original, which sounds very nice.
  7. I definitely remember him from at least one 90s sitcom as well as some stand up specials. Probably would appreciate him a lot more now, actually. Never really watched Curb -- I find Larry David so insufferable as to be unwatchable. I thought Seinfeld was aggravating too but at least the ensemble could offset it somewhat.
  8. whatever Allen does, count me in!
  9. yup, excellent! I have the Argo LP, which replaced a dim-sounding Disconforme CD reissue/bootleg.
  10. Thanks; yes, of course -- Jazz På Svenska! Beautiful album, had it on deck just recently. The Swedish film/theatre environment is not something I know too well, but appreciate the insight.
  11. hope he's ok...
  12. his ballet suite(s) are pretty neat.
  13. Ah, that's too bad. 90 is a heck of a run, though!
  14. Wonderful! Didn't end up keeping my King Crimson LPs when I moved back east, but Giles Giles & Fripp / McDonald & Giles stayed in the racks.
  15. Looks a bit like Owen Maercks’ collection
  16. I'd much rather have the Lacy/Waldron on CD and that probably goes for the Yusef also.
