  1. That seems heavy-handed. ........... And I really have a "thing" for trumpet-and-rhythm combos. I look quite forward to this. And will keep an eye out for the Thad-Mel-Henderson disc, thanks Ubu.
  2. Amazingly enough, for all my wanton foolishness, NONE of these players would get my vote. I either like or LOVE the mentioned figures. Admittedly only passing with a little Armstrong so I may get the Mosaic. But there hasn't been any problem in getting the "whys" of his stature in this music. Braxton is a great, though in criteria that differ from those used, probably, for other artists on this list.
  3. I got me one on Dawn ! Cover designer must have been going to satanic rituals. Yeah, me too - the cover is pretty tasteful compared to the reissue, though. I have no idea what urban legends people are talking about w/r/t this band. Track B1 sounds like early Vandermark 5... only better.
  4. Will the reissue include the other material from that set or constitute only Freddie Hubbard? It might be worth it if only Hubbard but the remainder barely registers a tug...
  5. Indeed... tho I never seem to run across one with the booklet included.
  6. Was it the gatefold on Dawn for $5? That would be a steal... Now a sleeper hit: Ahmed Abdullah - Life's Force - (About Time)
  7. Seconded. I have a few really nice Argo LPs. Birtwistle's The Triumph of Time is especially nice.
  8. Nope, but I'd like to. I really fucked up not buying an ORIG of that for $100 several years ago in a shop. I was really thinking about it, too... oops!
  9. Philly Joe really makes Shepp's Yasmina LP cook, however. I also really like that Trailways Express LP on Polydor. But of course neither of those have Mr. P.C.
  10. I've shied away from it myself... maybe foolishly, I don't know. There is a Saturn LP from this group that pops up on occasion.
  11. Lowell Davidson - Trio - (ESP orig)
  12. Weird record - and tough to find. Nice score.
  13. out of curiosity - where did they work together? was Lasha residing in Europe, did they travel together... ? I'll look it up - I got the impression that it was a "band" and that they had rekindled their friendship in Europe. Remember that some of Woody's earliest recordings, with Dolphy, also featured Prince Lasha and Sonny Simmons.
  14. Roscoe Mitchell - Solo Saxophone Concerts - (Sackville)
  15. Radiohead doesn't need any more fans.
  16. I had kinda hoped KB would stick around and post here...
  17. John Coltrane - Setting the Pace - (Prestige blue label stereo)
  18. Lasha and Shaw (LaShaw?) played a lot together in that time. Prince had hoped to issue some of the material but sadly that didn't come to pass.
  19. Love the samples I heard, just can't afford the cd at the moment. Kick-ass record.
  20. Clearly you dug Slumdog Millionaire.
  21. I think chewy is asking about why certain titles are rarer than others. Some were done in much smaller runs and only once. You can find a fair amount of W. 63rd copies of Cool Struttin' that were actually pressed later in the 1960s after Liberty bought the label, using (I assume) leftovers of the old label and jacket design. Other titles were less in demand at the time and were not repressed - thus you might have 500 copies of a Hank Mobley or 1000 of the Tina Brooks. I think I've seen a non-DG of the Brooks so it probably had a second pressing. Certainly, if a title is selling poorly it is either cut out or returned to the manufacturer and "destroyed." Supposedly the latter reason is why a lot of major-label psych records are so hard to find. The same might go for certain jazz titles. Hopefully Chuck weighs in here with some manufacturing tidbits that will fill in all these holes.
  22. This sounds like me a few months after a purge...
  23. Welcome, Karl! How is the digitization of your tape collection going? I remember you were seeking an intern for the digitization of the archives at the Creative Music Studio some time ago. Warm regards from the heart of Texas!
