  1. Alice Coltrane - Ptah, the El Daoud - (Impulse orig)
  2. I got a nice sealed original of that recently. Cool record.
  3. Yeah, it's actually fairly "out" leaning.
  4. I remember liking Snooze when I had it.
  5. Yeah, I had those Blackhawk LPs when I was first getting into jazz and especially Miles and Trane. I inherited battered originals from my dad, of course. They didn't really hold up, for me, compared to the material with Trane or with Shorter and Coleman. But even then, I still really liked what Mobley was trying to do and sought out his recordings for BN. I wouldn't mind hearing the material again after all these years.
  6. A man is sitting in his easy chair reading the paper, when his eldest daughter, age 9, runs up to him and says "Daddy, Daddy! Why is my name Rose?" He replies, "Well, honey, when you were born, we couldn't decide on a name, but just then, a rose petal floated into the room and landed right on your forehead, and that's why we named you Rose." Just then, his middle daughter, age 7, runs up and says "Daddy, Daddy! Why is my name Snowflake?" He replies, "Well, honey, when you were born, we couldn't decide on a name, but just then, a snowflake floated into the room and landed right on your forehead, and that's why we named you Snowflake." Then, his youngest daughter runs up and says "NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNGH" And he says, "Shut up, Cinderblock!"
  7. Actually, by NOT mentioning me, I too am insulted.
  8. In the above case, yep. Radio-friendly unit shifters don't require a "mouthpiece" anyway.
  9. Ornette - Town Hall 1962 - (ESP stereo orig, red label)
  10. A clean BN for a buck - I'd buy it. I'd even buy the Jeremy Steig for a buck. Yes, the Kenny Cox is nice, and I like both of them the same amount.
  11. A selected group of recordings from Bill Dixon's tape archives would be great. Maybe 8-10 discs would suffice. Or a select of the Savoy "avant-garde" releases... Or the music of Ornette and Prime Time as well as Soapsuds, Soapsuds...
  12. Oh yes, I have some of Bill's visual art - really nice litho, in fact. Rarely exhibited but man, some of those paintings are GOOD. Marzette Watts was a painter, and yeah, I know Larry Rivers' work. Rob Mazurek (to bring it more contemporary) is another painter, also does video art and installations. I'm sure I can think of some more.
  13. Looks like PayPal on your CC, chewy. I have it on the Mosaic. Good date and still bid on the King vinyl occasionally (never win, though).
  14. Kenny Cox - Introducing - (BN Liberty orig)
  15. I'll have to dig this one out. I have this and African Cookbook and recently sold my orig of Uhuru Afrika. It has been hard for me to connect with Weston's music and I am not sure why.
  16. I wasn't equating their sound, more the fact that I "like" them an equal amount. YMMV.
  17. Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Grow Fins Vol. 1 - (Xeric)
  18. You want to do QC on late-period Van Morrison masters?
  19. It's a toss-up between Philly Joe and A.T. for me, though there are/were many great drummers from the period. I agree about that PC/Trane set on Blue Note. It's really something else.
  20. That seems heavy-handed. ........... And I really have a "thing" for trumpet-and-rhythm combos. I look quite forward to this. And will keep an eye out for the Thad-Mel-Henderson disc, thanks Ubu.
  21. Amazingly enough, for all my wanton foolishness, NONE of these players would get my vote. I either like or LOVE the mentioned figures. Admittedly only passing with a little Armstrong so I may get the Mosaic. But there hasn't been any problem in getting the "whys" of his stature in this music. Braxton is a great, though in criteria that differ from those used, probably, for other artists on this list.
  22. I got me one on Dawn ! Cover designer must have been going to satanic rituals. Yeah, me too - the cover is pretty tasteful compared to the reissue, though. I have no idea what urban legends people are talking about w/r/t this band. Track B1 sounds like early Vandermark 5... only better.
