I've investigated only a little of his work though some of his contemporaries/followers - i.e Tim Buckley and Karen Dalton I like a lot.

I just felt like the music didn't go anywhere (for me)... of course, it was also culled from far lengthier (continuous?) performances. Now: Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance - (Blank original)

I see Soul Note LPs going for over $25 sometimes, so I guess anything's possible...

The only Stockhausen I listen to is the Aus den Sieben Tagen stuff. Semi-improvised.

RE: Rempis, I just got this one and it's a KILLER. The Percussion Quartet sets are also very, very nice.

No idea there... Edit to add that Saturn's issuing of LPs did not exactly follow band chronology.

Great that they are putting the Ra/Black Harold/Pharoah thing. It was issued as a Saturn LP.

Art Pepper is awesome. I would add that those whose music challenges me the most - to the point of sometimes not LIKING it - are those to whom genius I can apply. Also those who are very subtle but whose class and beauty and complexity I grasp at only later fall into this category. So: Dixon, Braxton, Cecil (tho his music was always "easy" for me to like), Ayler, Trane, Joe Maneri, Roscoe, Monk, Nichols, George Russell...

Tom, you should offer to help consign the collection to a local brick-and-mortar or eBay it. I have done that and been rewarded with a no-hard-feelings "pick of the litter."

I think the tape must have got damaged. Yeah, phasing, warble, wobble, various terms apply afaik to the "dropping in and out" of the cymbals. It's also bad on some of the 10" reissues. I have a Toshiba copy of the Hank w/ Lee and Byrd that also sounds pretty shitty, but it is a more general distortion with the highs that may or may not be on the source. I wonder if Kings are better or if this is one reason why some go for the OG issues?

Does yours have phasing on the last track of side B?

Mine are "out" leaning early ones so there you go. Unless Alfred Harth had a Jon Hendricks fascination that I don't know about...
