  1. Great news. Congratulations! I have a couple of dear friends with advanced prostate cancer and it's really tough business.
  2. Any relation to guitarist Ed Speight of Graham Collier Music? I have the two Bernie McGann albums on Emanem. They're pretty nice.
  3. I really like the Chatham Square LPs and the Shandar (which is raw). I have one of the Virgin 12 Parts and wish I had the full vinyl boxed set. Yes, he's overexposed, but in spite of that he's created some interesting music. And Chuck Close's portrait is great, nose hairs and all!
  4. Man, I'm broke too, but that's why these boards are great.
  5. Got any more of these kicking around?
  6. Man, I don't know what you're talking about. I lose count on the pressing bubbles from later New Jazz vinyl issues. Clearly they were often budget-bin reissues or "new artist" discs. Do you think Rene Thomas, Joe Harriott or Don Sleet would've been a "hot seller" on Riverside along with Monk and Bill Evans?
  7. Those BAT LP sets are rare and quite expensive.
  8. Well, I just want a reasonably priced machine that doesn't crap out regularly, has a good amount of memory and a monitor that is readable. I like Windows, but most PCs I've used have been short in the lifespan department.
  9. Thanks. Couldn't have done it without Roscoe's music and Chuck's label, though.
  10. I think the thing with Ike Quebec is the tone rather than the programming. I mean, some of those records are pretty lackluster but his sound is a bitch and a half. I'm a pretty big fan of Blowing In from Chicago - to me a quintessential hardbop blowing date - but YMMV. Like others here, I'd also rather hear Sonny Clark play his own tunes.
  11. Yes, I'd probably run Windows on it anyway because I like to use Access as a self-flagellation tool.
  12. Guess that seals the deal. My only problem with the MacBook is the small size of the monitor. My eyesight isn't that great. Thanks!
  13. Hey all, I'm going into the laptop market for the holidays. I like Macs, yet can't really plunk down for a Macbook Pro. I've been limping along on a dire Dell for a few years. I'm a little tired of PC's but would buy one if there's one with glowing recommendations. A 15" or larger screen would be ideal. Thoughts? Thanks!
  14. I would have paid $20 for a decent blood-red DG of that session any day of the week.
  15. I have a Japanese mini-LP disc of TCB. Nice, nice session!
  16. Picked up a nice, unplayed copy of Slant 6 - Soda Pop * Rip Off - on Dischord last night for $8. Haven't heard that record in years, but remember liking it at the time (ditto Autoclave).
  17. I know he's working on some heavy-duty writing projects. In other words, he DOES have a life outside of the board. His blog is also down/not in use.
  18. Yeah, it was nice. I did a pretty extensive piece slated for STN that due to reasons I won't get into here, got shelved (not Bill). Hopefully it will see the proper light of day. Bill's not an "easy" person to deal with, but nor is his music "easy." I approach him and his work with the same ears, and it has worked out very well. Of course, that was purely from a writer's standpoint and not a producer's or a record label's.
  19. Whether you got along with him or not, Chris, shouldn't distract from his importance to this music. Thanks for posting, Bev. You are right, but I never thought much of his music,at least not as it was in the mid-Sixties. Well, he's still making music that you might do well to at least give a spin.
  20. Now that would have been a show. Three pianos? I'll have to consult Dixonia on that one - seems a bit misleading and that there were two, if not three groups.
  21. Rumor has it that Sundazed might do the Watts...
  22. Whether you got along with him or not, Chris, shouldn't distract from his importance to this music. Thanks for posting, Bev.
