  1. Roswell Rudd - s/t - (America) w/ Tchicai, Moholo and Finn Von Eyben on bass. Apparently the tour that begot this record was supposed to be the NYAQ, but Graves decided to stay in the States, as did Workman.
  2. Indeed. But Rouse vis-a-vis Monk is sort of like Jimmy Lyons with Cecil (albeit the former with a shorter tenure).
  3. I'll add that "same breath" applies to under-recognized but great composers in the music. Dixon's instrumental approach, along with many other things, take him out of that "same breath."
  4. Certainly. I'm sure we both have Bill Dixon stories, albeit from differing perspectives.
  5. I don't really know what to say - he did some great music at one point, but that point is long past. I also don't see him as hugely influential as some of his pianist peers who didn't veer so hard into the mainstream (Tyner, Evans). I mean, people like Cecil, Braxton, Ornette, Coltrane, Miles, Bird, and of course those whose influence people are still wrapping their brains around (Bill Dixon, George Russell) - those are 100-listers. But not in Time. Nothing ever was, anyway...
  6. You (and all of us) are too old to be dealing with lolcats.
  7. Sorry to hear this, though I don't know his music well. A good reminder to dig into his catalog.
  8. Wow, sad news. I am not the biggest "fan" of his work but always respected what he was doing.
  9. Charles Tyler - Eastern Man Alone - (ESP orig) Love that opener, "Lacy's Out East."
  10. If starting prices of 102.81 EUROS with Amazon sellers is cheap to you, then NO - it is NOT that expensive ... Wow, I think I got it when it came out for about $18.
  11. No shit! What a fox... Always one of my favorite composers in the music.
  12. Very sorry to hear this. May he rest in peace. My heart goes out to you and all your family.
  13. For once, I'm with you Nate!
  14. I enjoyed seeing him with Amina Claudine Myers last year, more than I would've thought at this point in his career. For all the negativity his later sides tend to receive, some of them - especially those with Kessler (R.I.P.) - are quite fine.
  15. My comment about Blakey was related more to what I have felt was a tiring more-of-the-same thing with the Messengers' music, not his drumming per se. I find it hard as a non-musician to criticise intelligently someone's playing, though sometimes there are situations that I've heard that don't work for my ears.
  16. You played with him? -_-
  17. The first one, with Marion Brown and Frank Smith? That's a bitch of a session. I think I paid $20 for it about ten years ago. The Columbia is still his best from the early period, but I like both ESPs.
  18. I have the Emanems and they are quite good.
  19. I didn't get that at all! I think Juno was taken with Bateman's character because she saw him as a real cool older guy, and he was perhaps a little flattered. As she got to know him, she realized that he was somewhat shallow and immature, and that it was his wife (who at first seemed like a typical yuppie) who really cared about the baby. I think that the whole relationship between Juno and the couple helped Juno to see past first impressions in her perception of people, to "grow up", if you will. Very good assessment. And Sonic Youth isn't "just noise."
  20. I had trouble getting the web variant of the station to work, though some of you may have luck (if so, let me know!) ...
  21. Yeah, when is that UT reunion tour anyway??
  22. Ditto. The Revenant is kick-ass, but that's all of his work that I know. Would it really be that expensive on eBay or Amazon?
