  1. Hi everybody, I am being brought out to Fort Wayne to interview for an art library job. If I play my cards right, who knows, I may be posting from northern Indiana. My question is, are there any good record stores in the area? Not only jazz, but also rock/punk and outsider music? Thanks in advance. At least there is a natural grocery store there.
  2. Knife World - s/t - (Roaratorio)
  3. I have a friend who's a bassist in a post-hardcore band who swears by this record. Thanks for the reminder - need to score a copy.
  4. Now that I've ditched the Ginsberg beard, I use a Schick head on a nice, heavy steel shaft.
  5. Paul Metzger - Gedanken-splitter - (Roaratorio)
  6. Right, and there's no Tony Snell on India Navigation!
  7. I wouldn't be surprised, but Chuck probably knows more. I also heard a rumor that Bernard Stollman gave his "blessing" to Cummins to pick up where ESP left off - whatever that means!
  8. I guess I never realized there was a For Two Pianos on Arista. Those small group records are classics.
  9. Thanks, Ed. My copy of the Jarman and the LeRoi are both in storage and hadn't recalled that from Figi's liners. I don't have the Fire Music book you reference, but will have to keep an eye out. FWIW, I wasn't too impressed by the Tribe records I heard, though they seem a curious/unique lot. If I'm able to make successful contact with Moore, I'll follow up on these. It'd surely be interesting to hear from him if there was another tangent to his playing which has no recorded legacy.
  10. Paul Metzger - Four Improvisations on Modified Banjo and Guitar - (Nero's Neptune)
  11. Alan Skidmore/Elton Dean/John Marshall/Chris Laurence - El Skid - (Vinyl)
  12. I would buy the Braxton set in a second.
  13. Apropos of the "unissued" Reid Miles covers, I think that Dimensions & Extensions is one of those at-the-time-unissued BNs that may have had quite an impact. The ensemble writing is really spectacular. Thoughts?
  14. Wow, I normally try to stay away from The Man.
  15. Actually, there are some things I would avoid for $5. That $5 is a sandwich or a beer and a half to some of us! That Gonzalez is pretty hot - Eskelin is in fine form.
  16. I saw her in two gigs that weren't all that successful, but it wasn't her fault. Have enjoyed her readings of Annette Peacock tunes and Amaryllis as well.
  17. I think I liked him best either in duo with Cooper-Moore or sitting in with In Order To Survive.
  18. Yeah, the Murray titles on the label are sweet, and that's a great place to start! I've long had a fondness for the Alan Braufman, which isn't on CD. It's a very early recording of Cooper-Moore, then going by his birth name, Gene Ashton. Though they don't get a lot of love by some, I think the minimal music issued on the label is pretty great - Yoshi Wada, Arnold Dreyblatt, Phill Niblock.
  19. Not compared to here, nope!
  20. The unaccompanied bit reminded me a bit of JR Monterose.
