  1. You played with him? -_-
  2. The first one, with Marion Brown and Frank Smith? That's a bitch of a session. I think I paid $20 for it about ten years ago. The Columbia is still his best from the early period, but I like both ESPs.
  3. I have the Emanems and they are quite good.
  4. I didn't get that at all! I think Juno was taken with Bateman's character because she saw him as a real cool older guy, and he was perhaps a little flattered. As she got to know him, she realized that he was somewhat shallow and immature, and that it was his wife (who at first seemed like a typical yuppie) who really cared about the baby. I think that the whole relationship between Juno and the couple helped Juno to see past first impressions in her perception of people, to "grow up", if you will. Very good assessment. And Sonic Youth isn't "just noise."
  5. I had trouble getting the web variant of the station to work, though some of you may have luck (if so, let me know!) ...
  6. Yeah, when is that UT reunion tour anyway??
  7. Ditto. The Revenant is kick-ass, but that's all of his work that I know. Would it really be that expensive on eBay or Amazon?
  8. I'm about halfway through and really, really digging it. Sure, it is a bit jumpy in some of its transition to first-person, and the AACM-European improvisation influence isn't toyed with much beyond "Gittin' To Know Y'All" (where it's negated, naturally), but this is definitely a great book.
  9. Ray Russell - Secret Asylum - (Black Lion orig) Spinning the wild guitar/drums duo track, "These That I Am." Certainly a blueprint for a lot of wasted music since...
  10. Arica - Heaven - (Just Sunshine)
  11. I think I put a rice paper sleeve in mine - the stock on that one is pretty ridiculous. Great record.
  12. I liked it a lot but the hype sort of soured me on it. And I actually coudn't stand the music.
  13. I thought there was a thread referring to something like that. Ric Colbeck's lone Fontana LP is another prime example - stunning date, far and away superior to his rare sideman appearances.
  14. Happy Belated! Hope to hear those Barkingside discs soon.
  15. Long been curious about this one but it seems to slip my mind enough that I've not picked it up. Will have to rectify that soon.
  16. Now for something really exotic... Willem Breuker - Litany for the 14th of June 1966 - (Wergo)
  17. Hans Dulfer & Ritmo-Natural - The Morning After The Third - (Catfish orig)
  18. Tough call for me between Hill and Larry Young. I like both of those records a lot. Later Moncur... maybe, as the Roscoe/Jackie Mc comparison wouldn't be that "off," but then again I often feel like as good as New Africa is, it would've been better served by different recording/label circumstances. The Shepp version from the Way Ahead/Kwanzaa sessions comes close.
  19. And life goes on...
  20. I'd love a clean copy of The Phantom. Last one I saw in a shop, in Austin, was thrashed and $50!
  21. Yeah, I try to buy off-eBay as much as possible. Just got the ICP Chocolate Box from an auction list - probably never would have occurred in a high-visibility eBay auction. In fact most heavy pieces I've bought were through non-eBay connections. Plus, there weren't that many copies circulating of these rarities - they may be out of the market for a while now that new hands have 'em.
