  1. I'm not sure of the difference between individual titles, because I rarely can justify upgrading BNs. The King pressings usually sound really nice to my ears.
  2. I laughed. It's pretty obviously fake.
  3. Nice digs! Thanks!
  4. Well, that's a valid reason...
  5. Yes, indeed, both Blood LPs are ones I spin often! Both Touching and the Blood - Paul Bley In Haarlem record were on an Arista/Freedom twofer vinyl that, if you have a turntable, can be had for cheap.
  6. I know, I know... If I had several grand to blow on LPs, there might be at least one four-digit title in there. But one can dream of a $40 Pullen-Graves at Yale!
  7. Find Touching next, if you can. It's a great '65 trio with Kent Carter and Barry Altschul, wonderfully recorded. The vinyl is on Fontana, though I believe Black Lion did a CD of it at some point.
  8. The Bley is good, but must be taken as "of its time" and sort of an interesting excursion within the whole of his career. The title track, a free improvisation with Moog, piano, and Bennink's drums, is really nice, spare and moody stuff. Both of the AEC dates you mention are very good, in my opinion, and shouldn't be dismissed. Haven't spun the Braxton LP in some time, but remember enjoying it handily.
  9. The Americas are fine, indeed. For some strange reason, Coral Rock (issued in the US by Prestige) did not make it out as part of the Free America CD series. Nor did the "Uhuru" track from the Pitchin' Can LP (tho the Cal Massey tune by that name is on the Black Gipsy CD). Shepp had a fine run for Impulse!, but his work for Fontana, Sonet, and Savoy with both the New York Contemporary Five and Bill Dixon is fantastic. The Dixon-Shepp Quartet on Savoy is a stunner! Interestingly, the Savoy NYCF date is a "fake" - Shepp and Tchicai are present, and though Cherry showed up to the studio to play his tune "Consequences," Ted Curson did most of the trumpet playing. As Tchicai has discussed, the band dissolved in 1963, prior to the Savoy recording.
  10. Paul Bley - Blood - (Fontana Japan), Marte Roling's cover Mal Waldron - Black Glory - (Enja), German original Siegfried Kessler - Live at the Gill's Club - (Futura) w/ Barre Phillips and Steve McCall
  11. I'll add that "dummies" are more accurate at pricing than the price-gouging bidders... Few LPs "should" be over $100.
  12. "Oh, that one isn't priced? Well, let me look it up on Popsike/eBay completed auctions..."
  13. Yeah, I'm fond of that one too. I have a '70s LP edition of it, and my roommate often plays it because she thinks Bley (at that age) is "hot." Hey, at least she's spinning some good tunes, right?
  14. Didn't Kofsky have a field day with the title change? Either way, I should get the Victor (or something), as I haven't seen my cassette copy in ages...
  15. Yes, but Patti doesn't shave her pits...
  16. Bill Dixon/Archie Shepp - Quartet - (Savoy orig) Think I scored this one (clean) for $15.
  17. Get 'em all. Great music. Adam/Donald Petersen's thoughtful opinions aside, I find a lot of these to be better than the contemporaneous series on BYG Actuel.
  18. Amazingly hideous. Too bad, especially 'cos some of the Lippman-produced CBS records had some really nice jackets!
  19. Julie Driscoll - 1969 - (Polydor orig)
  20. Umm... I've heard worse!
  21. I'm gonna have to keep an eye out - for whatever reason, I never see it up, but it must be more "around" than I thought. Not that I have $500 to spend, but if it could be had for under $300... that would be nice.
  22. A favorite of mine Didn't you take the photo that Marte used for her design?
