Guys, Nothing worse then hearing you bitch about your team "backing into the playoffs". Your going to the playoffs. Enjoy it, this week is like exhibition baseball for you. Your real season starts next Wednesday. The only people stressed out here should be Tigers or Twins fans. Thats it.

I can't stop playing More Than You Know off of the Sonny Rollins - Moving Out. Yes it may be a bit subdued to some buts its Monk and Sonny so its still perfection.

The Virtual Terrapin Station “This is a first for the UCSC Library, and the grant gives us the opportunity to create a new model for web-based archives that will include traditional materials from our Grateful Dead Archive--along with materials contributed by scholars and Deadheads around the world.” The web site will provide access to Grateful Dead Archive materials, as well as tools to facilitate public contributions to the archive. Steel noted that the Library will develop a click-through permissions form for content contributors that will help extend the reach of the Grateful Dead Archive to the academic research community. The Grateful Dead donated their extensive band archive to UC Santa Cruz in 2008. It represents one of the most significant popular culture collections of the 20th Century and documents the band’s remarkable creative activity and influence in contemporary music history.

No point in hating them until we get a real commissioner and revenue sharing that is closer to the NFL. When the Red Sox won it all in 07 they had the 2nd highest payroll in MLB and gave Dice K 100 million dollars. The Devil Rays entire pay roll that year was what 30 mil? Aside from last century history, the club house and that one team doesn't have to shave there is no difference now between the Red Sox and the Yankees. 7 out of the 8 teams that will be in the playoffs are in the top 8 to 10 in payroll. The only underdog coming into the playoffs are the Rockies. Maybe if the Yankees win it all, enough people will get sick to their stomach's and see if MLB can make changes so thats its not a lock that the highest payroll teams are always in the playoffs. The Dvil Rays this year are not a disappointment, last year was a fluke. Not saying they weren't talented and deserving but its like going to a poker table and you have 20k to play with and everybody else had 3 mil. You may be a great poker player and go all in on a inside straight and walk away with some money but the next day those guys with 3 mil will still be at the table ready to kick your ass.

Grant Green - Iron City. ah.. love this on vinyl. Welcome back MG!

Oh totally, just saying that as a little kid I was a huge Beatles/Beach Boy's fanatic but for pop's Ray Davies was THE man. We both agreed on Miles and Monk so that was cool. Funny thing was this was around the early 80's so I guess our tastes were retro even back then. If you make that cd, let me know.

The popular histories show the Beatles as being in competition with the Stones and the Beach Boys. While I've never heard proof, I suspect that they had their ears glued to every Kinks release, both 45 and LP. I grew up in a house were the Kinks were in rotation daily. If my dad had a good buzz going he would go off on how those bums Brain Wislon, Lennon/McCartney and Jagger/Richards couldn't hold a candle to Ray Davies.

Couldn't agree more. If the Beatles decided that they could sell more records as the Beatles instead of as solo artists in 1970, just from the best songs off the solo albums & singles from 1970 (some might be from 71) you would have pretty good Beatles record. Something like: Side 1: Mother It Don't Come Easy Another Day Maybe I'm Amazed My Sweet Lord Working Class Hero Side 2: Instant Karma Beware of Darkness Every Night All Things Must Pass Awaiting On You All Junk God

Boogie Woogie Waltz -Weather Report - Sweetnighter been one of those weeks, needed the groove to calm me down.

ooh that would be cool, even partials from the July 72 Northwest tour would be nice. Summer and Fall 72 get so overlooked due to the Europe shows. A Europe 72 Box Set would be a serious amount of CD's and cash as most nights they played for four hours. I think my favorite night from that run would be the Amsterdam show.

You can also wait for individual Mono remasters on Vinyl to come out later this November, I will most likely be picking up Peppers and Hard Days Night. EMI wants everybody to buy these in as many formats and times as possible. I think limiting the original mono boxes to build up a demand/frenzy from a marketing standpoint worked out well for them. I am sure they sound great, especially over the original 87 CD releases but I think people going nuts over the Mono as the masters as Beatles/George Martin intended are forgetting at the time their focus was probably more for AM radio transmission then the wanabe's Hugh Hefners with the big hi fi's. I think anyway you go stereo box, single remaster or mono box will make even the casual Beatle fan happy.

I will pass on the new 77 box. I have enough 77 as it is plus the Terrapin as great as it sounded just didn't blow me away in comparison to the excellent 2/68 and 6/74 RT releases this year. At least the new box will make the must have every note from every run crowd happy. I was thinking there isn't that much left I feel that I would want to see get remastered. Though a 5/15/70, Red Rocks 78 would be most welcome. Anybody have any wish lists for the remaster treatment?

another take on the Mono vs Stereo opinion. I found some of the results surprising. http://onethirtybpm.com/2009/09/10/the-bea...mono-vs-stereo/

Third and Final Coltrane Prestige Box
WorldB3 replied to JETman's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That's more like it!! Less than $15 shipped. I placed my order. :rsmile: Seems like a data entry error, but what the heck. We'll see if BestBuy lives up to their mistake. That's it --- you fell victim to the plot to get you to order a copy! Fell victim also. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a single disc comp or something. However I have in the past picked up the first Coltrane Impulse Box and the Bill Evan's - Turn Out The Lights Box from Best Buy that were also priced wrong. Hoping to go 3-3. -
I would love to see the list, might be some gems I need to get that I don't know about.

I agree, I think it sounds fantastic also. But I was at a point when I needed to appreciate the randomness and absurdity of it due other things in my life pissing me off like work. Next time it may come off as pretentious. Though I did hear some new bits in it I never noticed before. Speaking of the rare Beatles stinker, spinning the new Past Masters despite the great remaster done on "She's A Woman" it still sucks. How much pot do you have to smoke to think "my love she's no pheasant" sounds good? I know misunderstood lyric, but even the correct interpretation of "My love don't give me presents. I know that she's no peasant" makes Oasis look like Shakespeare. The Inner Light, I can also live without. But for the most part even their B-Sides were good to great.

Bottom line is the Giants need to be competitive again next year, hard to have a rivalry when one team wins the other doesn't. This year was a good start but after the last four years why would anybody on the Dodgers hate the Giants if they are always ahead of them in the standings. I think rivalries don't really get going until you have to knock each other out in the post season or having meaningful games at the end of the season for several seasons in a row.
-
"Giants players, start to feel the bile come up in their throats even at the mere mention of the initials LA" Good Speak your living in the past. Not saying the players are not super competitive (as you have to be to play at their level) but the hating on laundry just isn't done anymore. These guys are more like a fraternity, they are the elite that have made it to the show, the rode the buses together in minors, been on the same team before on other mlb teams. Its different than the past when you played for one team for 20 years and lived in that city for the same and knew the fans. The players stick up for each other. They don't hate other players on other teams with whom they share a players union with. however they do hate the fans that call them pieces of crap, the bloggers with unfounded attacks on just about anything, the sport talk hosts and the sports writers who are allowed to share their space in the club house. The players on other teams they respect.
-
I don't have the energy to hate the Dodgers like before but damn seeing Lincecum get knocked out in Dodger stadium which also knocked out the Giants hope for the post season was a psychic blow. I look forward to seeing the Giants return the favor to Dodger fans next year. Officially Baseball season has ended and Football Season has started in SF.

I cant recommend that compilation enough. If you can't find it there is some overlap with the new Harder They Come Soundtrack- Deluxe two disc edition remaster. Great film, makes a great double bill the other Reggae cult classic film Rockers. One of my favorite clips from Rockers

Nice list Noj. Lots of great stuff there. I mostly listen to early 70's Roots Reggae but I love some early Ska and Rocksteady also. Lot of good recs here.
