  1. Looks like 'Digi Security' should beef up their security !
  2. I never thought I would see it in my lifetime !
  3. Chris Spedding was featured on early albums by David Essex And Paul Buckmaster (of 'Chitinous Ensemble' and 'On The Corner' fame) did the string arrangements for Bowie's 'Space Oddity' and some of the Elton Johns.
  4. I only have the 'Cross Country Tour' on GRP CD porcy (heresy !) but I can recommend it. Now spinning 'Manfred Mann Chapter III' on the Vertigo swirly label. To follow up with Jackie McLean 'It's Time' (BN NY USA mono) and 'Capuchin Swing' (BN 47W63rd deep groove)
  5. Hey Steph - how about approaching Dutton Vocalion up in Watford? Their Deram reissues have been good quality soundwise, the label seems to be very good with respect to royalty obligations and they have definitely got the 'niche' for 60s/70s rare jazz reissues. I believe that the point of contact up there at Dutton Laboratories would be Mike Dutton. Another great option would be Trunk Records - again their quality is great and they also issue very nice limited edition vinyl too . This one would get my vote .. (they have a website at www.trunkrecords.com and Johnny Trunk is the man). Another option might be Harkitt, who have also done CD/vinyl issues with Tubby Hayes material. Maybe Simon Spillett over on AAJ could help? (he regularly writes sleeve notes for Harkitt). Great to hear of this (hopefully) possible forthcoming 'Konkan Dance' release by the way. I love the 'A Street In Bombay' track, very groovy. I'll buy a couple at least (and ten if it helps get it issued). Heck, I'd love to be in a position to issue this stuff myself..
  6. I want one !
  7. I live in a wooded, rural area with woodland ajoining so there's always some interesting (feathered) birdlife to see. The bird bath and feeders are also a magnet to the 'passing trade'. Of course there's the usual resident blackbirds, thrushes and robins (very territorial) but I also have blue-tits and wrens (noisy little ****ers) nesting nearbye. Lots of house sparrows too - these used to be incredibly common in the UK but are now getting to be quite rare. The cider apple tree at the back gets regular vistitation from woodpeckers and there's also a tawny owl resident in the neighbourhood (hear it a lot but have never seen it though). The most amusing sight was of 3 ducks sleeping in the back garden one morning on the back lawn - obviously en route from a major migration, this must have been their first stop after an oceanic flight. I've never seen a deer in the back garden but they are not un-common in the area. Almost certainly badgers are frequent nocturnal visitors (they are very ulusive but I've come across them in the open on occasion). The most regular visitor is a huge male fox which crosses the back of the house around 5am after a night's hunting - usually followed about 30 seconds behind by the female.
  8. Farmer/Golson Jazztet set CDs III and IV. Sound on this set is fantastic and the music equally so.
  9. Ronnell Bright Ann Ronell Nelly Nelly Bly Captain Bligh Fletcher Christian
  10. I gave Alfred's Theory a try today with the Dizzy Reece 'Star Bright' Classic Records reissue and, you know, I think he's right !
  11. The 60C wash with fabric softener?
  12. Why can't they just spend their weekends bargain-hunting at car boot sales like the rest of us..
  13. Hey, I have a stack of those too ! These UK ones have the 'Philips C60' imprint and not the 'Big Ben' designer label. They were the first tapes I ever bought, for a trusty old Philips casette recorder. Heck yeah. Even with tape hiss and lower high-end, it's still analog, and that ain't nuthin' to sneeze at... Amen !
  14. Good price ! That's a bit better than the £90 that this one was going for in Ray's Jazz London store when I visited last week. A behemoth, for sure.
  15. This guy has been listening to too much Sun Ra..
  16. There was a tribute programme to Best on the TV tonight and they showed excerpts from some of those NASL games. Past his prime but the old magic was there ! Incidentally, when I was out in LA there was a bar up in Hermosa Beach called 'Besties'. Presumably that was his US business venture? Closed down after a cops raid at the time I was there.
  17. How do I vote for apple and blackberry pie?
  18. I have a whole box-full of those muthas (and the XL1s) purchased in the 1970s and with jazz broadcasts from the BBC on them (not much 'live' but I think somewhere there is a Clark Terry Big Bad Band).
  19. I remember those times from mid to late 60s and as a small youngster George Best was (and seemed like) a God. I still remember the shock when he quit Man United at the age of 25 or 26. It caused one heck of a stir in English soccer and Man U were never the same again. Fast forward to the 1980s and that infamous BBC appearance on 'Wogan', which I also caught live, after the booze had taken its toll.
  20. Freddie Redd 'Music From The Connection' (BN 47W63rd deep groove)
  21. Yes, remember many times watching him on the TV playing in his heyday for Manchester United. Along with Dennis Law it was an awesome combination.
  22. Hey, a padded cell !
  23. Thanks for bringing this one back up. Recall at the time the endless procrastination ! (sorry)
  24. Yes Brownie, the flimsy sleeves tend to fall apart pretty easy. Miraculously though, this one has survived its 45 years in great shape ! Now spinning: Lee Morgan 'Sixth Sense' (BN Liberty blue/white stereo) Horace Silver 'Horace-Scope' (BN 47W63rd DG mono) Freddie Hubbard 'Breaking Point' (BN NY USA mono)
  25. From what I gather, the internal bleeding is so bad that there's no hope I'm afraid. I too was shocked at this announcement though.
