  1. Joe Chambers 'Urban Grooves' (Eighty-Eights)
  2. Thanks Alfred ! I'll hold off for a 'mo but this is another excellent deal. I was expecting to have to wait at least a year before the Amazonian Caiman price kicked in. This rate we'll only have to order from Mosaic HQ for Selects..
  3. I'm very sorry to hear this. RIP and condolences to Sam.
  4. I like it but I have to admit that it's only once in a blue moon that I give it a spin. There again, I am a big Harold Land fan.
  5. 'Introducing Kenny Cox and the Contemporary Jazz Quintet' (BN Liberty stereo)
  6. Old King Cole Tsar Nicholas II Rasputin
  7. Last I heard, I'm afraid that the story was that Universal had lost the master tapes of the 'Windmill Tilter' session. It is a fantastic LP and definitely worthy of reissue. A very worthy Johnny Dankworth 'aggregation' play the arrangements with standout solos by Mr Wheeler and also a very young John McLaughlin. Also something of an early 'trial run' in ways for the ideas developed on the ECM 'Music For Large and Small Ensembles'. Some of the same guys (Ian Hamer, for example) also feature on both sessions - Wheeler is very loyal to his sidemen. £200 is about the going rate for a good copy. Pretty rare in this shape.
  8. Dr J - I have one of those British anti-static brushes. Not sure if it is made by Hunt but it has a foldable top handle, if that helps identifying it. I also use a Zerostat (1978 vintage, still going strong !) for LPs where there might be particular concern on the static. I second everything that you said in your post on the VPI and the RRL cleaning fluids. I use both the deep cleanser (2 applications) followed by the regular stuff (2 applications) per side, applied with the VPI brush (no problem). The difference has been astonishing, particular to older pressings such as the heavy vinyl Blue Notes, Contemporaries, Esquires etc. There's a huge opening up of the sound, improved separation of the instruments and general improvement in 'finesse' that is at least the equivalent of a major cartridge upgrade. Worth every penny !
  9. Stan Tracey Quartet 'With Love From Jazz' (UK Columbia mono). I think this one is at least as good as 'Under Milk Wood Suite' - and that is saying something.. Love the Liberty pressing of this one. It 'torches' the CD.
  10. Has anyone actually received their order yet? Amazon.fr sent me an email stating that it was not currently available but may ship in another six weeks... translated: not going to happen. Yes, I got the same reply from them I suspect that you are right, it will not happen. Any luck with second-hand copies, Brownie?
  11. I saw McCoy's trio with Erics Harland and Gravatt a few weeks ago and it was a great gig, contrary to some of the lukewarm reviews of the UK tour. Dont miss !
  12. The 'Dan Goulds' are everywhere.. Dan Gould
  13. Freddie Roach 'Good Move' (BN NY USA mono). With Hank Mobley This will be followed by Lionel Hampton 'Records In Paris' (10" mono, 3 volumes on the Vogue LDE series)
  14. Roland Hampton Charles Mingus (ex) President Jimmy Carter
  15. Looks like 'Digi Security' should beef up their security !
  16. I never thought I would see it in my lifetime !
  17. Chris Spedding was featured on early albums by David Essex And Paul Buckmaster (of 'Chitinous Ensemble' and 'On The Corner' fame) did the string arrangements for Bowie's 'Space Oddity' and some of the Elton Johns.
  18. I only have the 'Cross Country Tour' on GRP CD porcy (heresy !) but I can recommend it. Now spinning 'Manfred Mann Chapter III' on the Vertigo swirly label. To follow up with Jackie McLean 'It's Time' (BN NY USA mono) and 'Capuchin Swing' (BN 47W63rd deep groove)
  19. Hey Steph - how about approaching Dutton Vocalion up in Watford? Their Deram reissues have been good quality soundwise, the label seems to be very good with respect to royalty obligations and they have definitely got the 'niche' for 60s/70s rare jazz reissues. I believe that the point of contact up there at Dutton Laboratories would be Mike Dutton. Another great option would be Trunk Records - again their quality is great and they also issue very nice limited edition vinyl too . This one would get my vote .. (they have a website at www.trunkrecords.com and Johnny Trunk is the man). Another option might be Harkitt, who have also done CD/vinyl issues with Tubby Hayes material. Maybe Simon Spillett over on AAJ could help? (he regularly writes sleeve notes for Harkitt). Great to hear of this (hopefully) possible forthcoming 'Konkan Dance' release by the way. I love the 'A Street In Bombay' track, very groovy. I'll buy a couple at least (and ten if it helps get it issued). Heck, I'd love to be in a position to issue this stuff myself..
  20. I want one !
  21. I live in a wooded, rural area with woodland ajoining so there's always some interesting (feathered) birdlife to see. The bird bath and feeders are also a magnet to the 'passing trade'. Of course there's the usual resident blackbirds, thrushes and robins (very territorial) but I also have blue-tits and wrens (noisy little ****ers) nesting nearbye. Lots of house sparrows too - these used to be incredibly common in the UK but are now getting to be quite rare. The cider apple tree at the back gets regular vistitation from woodpeckers and there's also a tawny owl resident in the neighbourhood (hear it a lot but have never seen it though). The most amusing sight was of 3 ducks sleeping in the back garden one morning on the back lawn - obviously en route from a major migration, this must have been their first stop after an oceanic flight. I've never seen a deer in the back garden but they are not un-common in the area. Almost certainly badgers are frequent nocturnal visitors (they are very ulusive but I've come across them in the open on occasion). The most regular visitor is a huge male fox which crosses the back of the house around 5am after a night's hunting - usually followed about 30 seconds behind by the female.
  22. Farmer/Golson Jazztet set CDs III and IV. Sound on this set is fantastic and the music equally so.
  23. Ronnell Bright Ann Ronell Nelly Nelly Bly Captain Bligh Fletcher Christian
  24. I gave Alfred's Theory a try today with the Dizzy Reece 'Star Bright' Classic Records reissue and, you know, I think he's right !
