evan - there's very little of McNair available on CD I'm afraid and the vinyl is in huge demand amongst the DJ fraternity of 'Gilles Peterson- clones/wanabees'..
However, all is not lost ! Stand by for the new Dutton Vocalion reissues which include one of McNair's best. John Cameron's 'Off Centre'.
I agree with you that McNair is a very fine and under-rated player. Hugely prominent as a session player over here in the late 60s/early 70s. His playing was heard by 10s of millions every week on BBC TV as the flute lead on the 'Top of the Pops' cover version of 'Whole Lot of Loving' (I think that's what the tune was called). There were quite a few UK jazzers in that group (including Cameron drummer Tony Carr, I think).
I wish someone would reissue 'Harold McNair' (RCA), which has 'The Hipster' on it. 'Flute 'n' Nut (Island) has also not been reissued on CD. Never heard it but apparently that has a larger group doing covers of 60s tunes.
'Affectionate Fink' on Island with Izenzon and Moffett from around 1965 is also rarer than a rooster's nashers and is incredibly expensive (and in trashed condition ) when it comes up on ebay.
Hope this helps !
