  1. It's those Casino dudes who won again. Thank The Lord they don't collect Mosaics..
  2. Bart Simpson Lionel Bart Rabbi Lionel Blue
  3. quote:- "IF this envelope sold for tens of thousands of dollars no I would not loose any sleep over it" I'll bet... Looks like a brown envelope full of Saskatchewan prairie air, if you ask me. Fools and their money are easily parted.
  4. Rocky Boyd Boyd Raeburn Rabbie Burns
  5. Ssshhh - I don't wanna hear about it this year.. 'Complete Blue Note Freddie Redd' CD2
  6. Tommy Mason James Mason Perry Mason
  7. Wow! This one was news to me. Was that album with LaPorta and co. originally done for Debut or for some other label? Interesting to read that he taught Pat Martino in his early years.
  8. Booker Ervin 'Structurally Sound' (Pacific Jazz) To be followed up with: Booker Ervin 'Back From The Gig' (BN Reissue Series twofer) and Jackie McLean 'Right Now' (BN NY USA mono)
  9. Just revised my opinion significantly upwards on the Ervin version of 'A Train' after giving it another listen. Booker plays superbly on this - as indeed he does throughout the session. He's both very fluent and overflowing with things to say. John Hicks on piano is a major plus factor for the date.
  10. Sinclair Acey Kevin Spacey Stan Tracey

  12. Yes, the LP does have a harsher sound than BN's of that era (Dick Bock production I guess). Just picked my Liberty PJ copy of this out of the rack and will give it a spin this afternoon. A nice version of 'Stolen Moments' on this LP, although the version of 'A Train' is a bit throwaway. I see that Ervin insisted that pianist John Hicks be flown in from NYC especially for this session.
  13. Isn't it 'Micheline Pelzer'. Her father played host to many visiting jazz stars in Liege, Belgium and I think that's how she got the invite to do the recording with Wayne. There's an interesting section on this in James Gavin's 'Deep in a Dream' book. Just been playing Dizzy Gillespie 'Perceptions' Verve deep groove pressing. Lovely stuff - superbly orchestrated by JJ Johnson. Followed up with Rhoda Scott 'The Thad Jones Mel Lewis Orchestra With Rhoda Scott' (Japanese Barclay). This one smokes !!
  14. Of course, 'Structurally Sound' was recorded out on the West Coast by Pacific Jazz so some of that 'vibe' may be a factor.
  15. Too much excitement this time of the morning..
  16. Gavin MacLeod Ted Lange Bernie Kopell Alice Keppel King George V Sir John Godfrey
  17. Those Rearward reissues are fantastic ! That's just about my favourite reissue label. The LP sets in particular are outstanding - great packaging, great sound. I wish just wish they would reissue a few more rare Campi CBBB sides but so far, very happy with Rearward. I have the Black Lion 'November Girl' LP. A bit crackly in terms of sound but I'll stick it on the VPI to see if that improves it. If not, I'll stick in an order for the Rearward. The Karl Drevo is also worth checking out too, along with all those cool Italian jazz issues.
  18. Dorothy Gale Judy Garland Frank Morgan Morgan the Pirate Lee Morgan ( B-) ) Morgana King
  19. Don't play this one enough. I'll spin a couple of the Q-LPs later tonight..
  20. Interesting that Steve Turre wasn't in the lineup that night. The group at Ronnie Scotts I caught those two nights (which had Turre) played many of the same numbers. 'You and The Night...', 'Katrina Ballerina' and 'Organ Grinder' bring back very fond memories. Looking forward to this !
  21. Miles Davis/Michel Legrand 'Dingo' (WB) This one was significantly better than expectations....recommended !
  22. Just noticed from Amazon that this one is about to be reissued in CD over here in Europe: Gitte Haenning With The Clarke/Boland Big Band Recorded with Danish singer Gitte Haenning back in 1968 I believe. One of the few CBBB recordings I haven't yet heard, looking forward to checking this out.
  23. Socrates Hegel Emanuel Kant
  24. Followed up with 'Miles In Berlin' (German CBS) Both this and the Tokyo album sound spectacular !
  25. Joe LaBarbera Joseph Barbera William Hanna Anna Ford Joe Ford Ford Prefect
