It may be, but I have a mono copy of Lee Morgan-Search For The New Land-4169 w/o Liberty on the cover and a NY label. I'm fairly sure that my copies of all of these have the NY sleeves and labels with no mention of Liberty. In some cases (e.g the Morgan and Patton) I think the vinyl is Liberty era and not the heavier Plastilite.

This thread has caused me to reference again an old Blue Note ad which appeared in the August 1967 edition of Jazz Monthly. The BN distributor regularly put monthly adds into this mag similar to the ones in Down Beat, announcing the latest releases which had 'landed' in the UK. There was a haitus in adverts until this August edition, then the first mention of 'Liberty Records' and 3 prominent releases, namely 'Unit Structures', 'Cornbread' and 'The Jody Grind', all with Liberty sleeves. Also mentioned is 'Rough & Tumble', 'Complete Communion' and the two Ornettes at the Golden Circle. I've just checked my copy of 'Cornbread' and this has the liberty sleeve and NY USA labels. Another early Liberty which comes into this category that I have checked against is The Three Sounds 'Vibrations'. My copy of Jody Grind is a Liberty label mono gatefold but for sure there are NY USA label copies out there.

Fish Discovered With Human Face Pattern

I think this lovely critter is a thing called a Gulper Eel that lives in very, very deep water - hence the deformed shape. Great pics ! -

£10,000 eh? He could have bought a heck of a lot of OOP Mosaics with that.. -

How true! It would make a very good Bobby Hutcherson Blue Note ! The other Sonny Simmons that was put out on CD is 'Burning Spirits', originally a 2LP set and with Barbara Donald also in the front line. I like 'Rumasuma' a heck of a lot too (2 basses in addition to Simmons and Donald plus Billy Higgins on drums). Don't know if it ever came out as an OJC but if so, worth picking up. -
It's about time Blue Note reissued the Doctor's classic 'Think!' album. 'Son Of Ice Man' on that one is the biz..

Thanks for the info !

You do not need a spindle adaptor. Erm - I think I do for singles that are missing the centre bit ! Looks like there are plenty of them up on ebay.

Talking of Lin Biviano, I'm sure I saw an episode of the Lawrence Welk show where he was introduced and featured on trumpet !

Thanks. I'll look at getting hold of the spindle adapter and then maybe give my Miles single a spin. Possibly now worth looking at getting hold of some Sun Ra Saturn singles? !

Probably has a Linn LP12 w/o Lingo motor. The Valhalla model only spins 'em at 33. I have same tt/motor, but use a pulley attachment and seperate belt to spin at 45rpm. Cool set btw, enjoy. No, I have the Lingo Are you saying I can set this thing to spin 45rpm? Will still need to get the spindle adapter though.... After a few big vinyl buys of late I'm broke so this one had to be passed up.. You are joking, right? Lingo is 33/45. Hold the on/off button down to switch to 45rpm. No adaptor needed. No joke - never had an instruction book for this unit. In fact I've only one 45 (a Miles Davis 'Great Expectations') so one of these days I'll give it a shot..

Blue Note Books
sidewinder replied to Jazz Kat's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
I got my copy of the softcover book for $13.50 at True Blue (accessible via the Mosaic Records site). Worked out at about £7 for UK buyers compared with the £20 I saw it for in the shops in London. Not sure if it's still on special but it might worth a look ! That softcover book is a killer, with some wonderful later Wolff photos in colour. Prints are in Ektachrome, so they look wonderful. Great shots of Hank, Larry Young, Pete LaRoca etc. -
Edsel Gomez. Love his work with David Sanchez !

I've bought from the B's just once to get hold of the Tubby Hayes Jap Fontanas. I was in the process of ordering a whole stash of Jazz In Paris CDs but when I saw that the postage was almost as much as the price of the CDs I canned the whole lot..

Marte Roling used a photo of Marion Brown that I took. The photo was published in Jazz Hot back in 1966! Wish she had acknowledged her source

There was an interesting thread on 'Grant vs Wes' fairly recently. Check this out for some useful recommendations !

2 alternates in the Mingus Candid set
sidewinder replied to Dmitry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Interesting discussion about this LP set. I'm on a Mingus kick at the moment so will pull the LPs down a bit later and have a listen. Both of the Mingus Mosaics are great ! -
Don't worry about the price, spinlps. I think it's a pretty good deal. With that EP being a 33rpm item as well, can't go wrong. I'm dead jealous..

All of the George Braith Blue Notes are well worth hearing, count me in as a big fan. Particularly like 'Two Souls In One' and 'Extensions', which are both full of great grooves and some of Grant Green's finest work outside of his own sessions. 'Braith-A-Way' is an all time classic ! Both beautifully recorded too by RVG.
