  1. Good test of the player after levelling it though !
  2. An excellent Prestige twofer. Nice arrangements by Teddy Edwards too !
  3. Is that the one that came out at the same time as the Vocalion CD? Didn’t realise it was a boot. I wonder if Vocalion had access to Adrian Kerridge’s tape set - in which case they used the bone fine masters and not the copies from Universal. Same source was used for that great and short lived Mike Taylor ‘Pendulum’ CD. Correct - you mean HJ’s latest offerings page? Wallets need to be hidden when going anywhere near there. 2CD - More from Vocalion. Jeff Clyne, Pepi Lemer and co. Remember seeing this band at Ronnie’s as a lead-in to one of the US groups.
  4. Yeah - saw that one. It is by the Australian Votary people I think - they say it is from the master tapes. You know what though - the Vocalion sonics are so damn good, I’m not going to bother. 3 great tracks but the last track to my mind is a bit of a jam and not to the same level. Still - worth having if you don’t already have it.
  5. The usual Dutton Vocalion excellence.
  6. Full On would be an understatement !
  7. German first press
  8. Case in point - the ‘Agharta’ and ‘Get Up With It’ twofers always sounded pretty good to me.
  9. 3. Count Basie Roulette Studio Recordings.
  10. The Mosaic version of the Pass will do for me. I have a Pacific Jazz orig. and Affinity of the Curtis Amy and definitely don’t need a 3rd. Or 4th - taking into account the Select. Might well ‘Pass’ on the whole lot.
  11. My phono stage regularly picks up French radio.
  12. I’ve never heard it but just read the bit in Barbara’s book where she mentions recording this one. Took years to complete but she is very fond of it apparently.
  13. It was one of the very first CDs I ever bought - in the long box. Liked it so much that I eventually bought the vinyl !
  14. Sam Rivers and Dick Griffin !
  15. I have an old copy of that - have the feeling that it is on the ‘GI Records’ label.
  16. Hopefully it will hang around for a while and not disappear in a jiff. I am also tempted by their Colosseum box. So far, every disk in the BT box has been excellent.
  17. Well, my opinion so far is that the music in this set is actually superior to any of the commercial Paraphernalia LP releases that I have. Audio quality is very good, as typical of the BBC FM broadcasts of the era. Really digging this BBC box and it makes a great accompaniment to enjoying Barbara’s very down to earth biography (also strongly recommended). I heard some of those 70s broadcasts from Paraphernalia and Jubiaba on BBC radio (sadly, often in AM) and it is great to be able to savour them in slower time on FM stereo broadcast quality and repeat as necessary. A rare treat !
  18. That was a great place for hearing solo piano recitals.
  19. Sound quality as good as can be expected considering the circumstances but great music and the usual expert sleeve note essay by Simon Spillett.
