  1. This is a big shock. He was playing fantastically well at that Strata East London concert several years ago (2016?) and looked in good shape then. RIP, a great talent and a very nice guy by all accounts. His ‘Maybeck’ is one of my favourites in that series. Superb.
  2. These old Vogue Jazz Doubles are great !
  3. My ‘local’ is open. Masks required, maximum of 6 in store at any one time. Seems to be working OK.
  4. Don’t recall Ari Brown being flagged up as a particular board favourite - but I guess I missed the threads concerned. Interesting !
  5. Bill Barron..George Adams...Tyrone Washington...Odean Pope... It has a ‘Muse’ sound to it, wouldn’t be Kenny Barron on electric piano would it?
  6. Is it Billy Harper on tenor on that first track?
  7. Soul Brother 2LP of Eddie’s Capitol/Blue Notes.
  8. According to the Hoff Board - Blue Note, Zev Feldman production, not a Tone Poet issue.
  9. Back on deck with this superb 2LP set.. Never thought I’d hear a great jazz version of ‘Arthur’s Song’ by Christopher Cross !
  10. With Acrobat, some of their releases are significant on any format and would otherwise be unavailable. I’m thinking here of their live Tubby Hayes, Ronnie Scott and Dick Morrisey/Lennie Best releases. Shame really.
  11. Picked that box up here in the UK from Fopp for about £10 ! Part of the big Fantasy CD offload.
  12. There will be a 300 page thread on the Hoffmann Forum about this one..
  13. Got that one some where.
  14. It is a show called ‘Jazz Unlimited’ - there are a few 1953 shows on the site. In surprisingly OK sound for paper based tape. The one I was listening to featured new releases - one being Art Pepper’s ‘Mucho Calor’. John Kirby featured on one of the other shows. Like time travel. ‘Sauter-Finnegan Orchestra coming up in performance at the Toronto Islands’ !
  15. That Toronto radio show from Nov 1953 on the site is pretty neat - and fascinating.
  16. Ah yeah, you are right. I was thinking of the Turrentine.
  17. Probably the same guy that designed the Bill Evans shrapnel receptacle !
