  1. Fair enough - with no exceptions that I can think of the CD versions do indeed sound generally excellent and I would agree that they provide the Mosaic bargains of the moment. It’s all good !
  2. Thanks - looks like another one for the list !
  3. Every morning should be a James Moody morning ! How is it ?
  4. To accumulate the vinyl sets will probably take the best part of 20 years, especially in that sort of condition. Much easier to find the CD sets, especially in the era of the heavier vinyl sets when the vinyl sets sold were generally much lower in number. By and large, they can sound damn good though.
  5. I agree. Bought this set from Greg in person and he was kind enough to sign it. He is a regular presence in the English Summer - hopefully back doing his stuff next year.
  6. Ray Russell meets Alex Harvey
  7. Good way to start a listening day.
  8. Hopefully they bring ‘Drives’ out as a Tone Poet. A decent copy of this one has always eluded me and I missed the ‘Rare Groove’ version for some reason.
  9. Strange that the master tapes turned up after that story in the book ! The Harry Beckett book by the way - like the Innovations In British Jazz tome by John Wickes - really could have used some serious editing as there are daft grammatical errors and some repetition even within sections. Still, it is gratifyingly full of detail and an obvious labour of love and for that it gets a big from me. There are gigs in there that I had seen with Harry and completely forgotten about until reminded from the text. The Claude Deppa African Big Band in 1999, for example.
  10. Within 2 days to my location. Two weeks - ridiculous ! They did mention by email today that the first press was about to run out and second press lined up. Suspect that is the reason.
  11. Yes - it has been for sale on Bandcamp. I had my suspicions on source as the John Thurlow book mentioned that the tapes were believed destroyed. This LP sounds to be from a master though - impeccable sound. Good news ! Cadillac have done a great job - flipback laminated sleeve as well. to them !
  12. Put right in the Mosaic Muse Shaw set.
  13. Quick diversion from the foot fetishisms - I saw the band on that tour. and Joey D. played some trumpet !
  14. Cadillac reissue. Excellent remastering and pressing.
  15. These 3 superb sessions from Graham and co. were undersung at time of release and are hugely under-appreciated to this day.
  16. Any place that calls itself ‘Chalkys’ raises my early warning alarm immediately !
  17. Things got worse. That radio programme said the most of his vinyl had outgrown the house and was stored in a garage somewhere in outer London. Then there’s also the stuff that was in Mole’s basement (inner inner sanctum).
  18. Wow ! Somewhere, I’ve still got what I think was his very first mail order mailshot, sent out from his home several years before the Mole Jazz shop even started. If I remember correctly, I bought a second hand copy of the Miles Davis ‘Green Haze’ twofer from it. Will have to check but I think it lists some Tubby Hayes Fontana’s at £2 a shot !
  19. Looks like my Harry Beckett reissue LP is on its way! Now if only Ogun would reissue ‘Got It Made’. I’m glad that the Dutch don’t play cricket. Oh, hang on - I think they do !
