  1. Kitsch - but it does have the original version of ‘So Near, So Far’. Fantastic band lineup with Victor Feldman, Stan Tracey etc., huge waste of jazz resources. Obviously aimed at the ‘housewives choice’ radio market of that era.
  2. Sad news - way too young. RIP. Another fan here of his work with Elvin and Miles.
  3. Art Themen is currently doing daily solo lockdown recitals to the neighbours from his front door in Henley-on-Thames !
  4. Blue Label mono. Originally sold by Princeton Record Exchange, by the looks of it. Sadly though not with that orange CBS label. These were either UK or US issues and the vinyl isn’t the thickest. Must dig them out to check !
  5. I bought a number of those Candid/Barnabys at Mole as deletions but not the Ervin. Richard Williams, Mingus and Don Ellis I think.
  6. More than once over the years I’ve come across that one in the racks and been near traumatised by it.
  7. I was playing ‘Ife’ from that Sony box the other day on CD and marvelling at how well that version sounds. I was disappointed back in the day that Mosaic didn’t do an LP version of this set but these days I’m more chilled. Saves getting up off the sofa every 15 mins. I think they stopped doing LP versions of the Miles sets with the Cellar Door Box onwards.
  8. Sad news, RIP. I have always enjoyed his work with Mr Martino on ‘Baiyina’. Never realised he was on ‘Twin Peaks’.
  9. I think you are right Porcy - much of the ‘Big Fun’ material was in the On The Corner Box by Sony, which Mosaic didn’t cover.
  10. Always used to look forward to the US Air Mail flyer from Mosaic HQ landing on the mat, with the latest Mosaic catalogue to drool over !
  11. Fair enough - with no exceptions that I can think of the CD versions do indeed sound generally excellent and I would agree that they provide the Mosaic bargains of the moment. It’s all good !
  12. Thanks - looks like another one for the list !
  13. Every morning should be a James Moody morning ! How is it ?
  14. To accumulate the vinyl sets will probably take the best part of 20 years, especially in that sort of condition. Much easier to find the CD sets, especially in the era of the heavier vinyl sets when the vinyl sets sold were generally much lower in number. By and large, they can sound damn good though.
  15. I agree. Bought this set from Greg in person and he was kind enough to sign it. He is a regular presence in the English Summer - hopefully back doing his stuff next year.
  16. Ray Russell meets Alex Harvey
  17. Good way to start a listening day.
  18. Hopefully they bring ‘Drives’ out as a Tone Poet. A decent copy of this one has always eluded me and I missed the ‘Rare Groove’ version for some reason.
