  1. That is very sad to hear - RIP. I saw him at least once that I can recall, a Bill Frisell gig touring 'Have A Little Faith' back in the 90s in a band that also featured Don Byron. I recall him fitting in to that band very well indeed.
  2. One sold for £2550 in March, per Popsike. Also an archival quality copy.
  3. Yes, my LP is in mono. I think it is likely that the reissue LP will be in stereo. There was one major performance where Taylor was a no-show and had to be subbed. I have the feeling that it might have been Croydon.
  4. It was hung on the wall on the way down to the basement - this was in the very last last days of Mole when they had vacated the upstairs section. The CD issue of 'Trio' was in that first batch of 'Impressed Repressed' CDs put out by Universal UK with involvement by Giles Peterson and Tony Higgins around the time of the 'Jazz Britannia' concerts and TV series. One of the attractions to me of the new LPs is that they have new multi page sleeve notes by Tony Higgins, which should be interesting. The Sunbeam CD was withdrawn from sale very suddenly - if my memory is right Universal didn't approve the use of the tapes (sourced from the Lansdowne Studio, then still in business).
  5. Yes, that Columbia Clef would be the first UK issue from the 1950s.
  6. The CDs from the 2000s were pretty well done I think, although Sunbeam's issue of 'Pendulum' came and went literally overnight (managed to snag one). Not sure on quantities of the original LPs but both were in low numbers for sure. Have only ever seen 2 copies of the 'Pendulum' LP. One is the one I have and the other was a pretty beat-up copy on the wall of Harold Moore's not long before they closed. They wanted about £500 for it even then ! Incidentally, I see that the sales invoice lists out the cover prints as separate items at £1 each so I wonder if these will be limited or included with the 'regular' issue?
  7. My order has gone through OK, no problems. There is a 25% discount offer for first orders. Doesn't apply to pre-orders alas but it did allow me to pick up the new Kenny Burrell 3LP Tone Poet at a decent price. Quite a lot of overlap with the Blue Note UK store in terms of their inventory so all part of the same Universal UK operation by the looks of it. The two new Mike Taylor LPs will be 'play' copies. I have both the Lansdownes in originals but this allows me to keep them under wraps.

    Andy Bey RIP

    That's sad news - RIP.
  9. I missed out on this CD before the mad panic but have secured one of the 50 extra copies from Poland so hopefully its on its way soon. With JiB CDs seem to either hang around for ages or they are gone overnight !
  10. It's a good, informative read and a lot of work obviously went into it.
  11. That mix is probably as good as it will be, unfortunately. There's an interesting writeup on all this in the new Wheeler biography (excellent). It was an early 8-track desk and there was strange placement of players and lots of bleed-through between tracks (Oxley in particular). The first mix was a disaster so Kenny brought Bob Cornford in to rework it, which did miracles apparently. From recollection the Incus LP mix has the same issues.
  12. Apparently (or at least according to Hoffman Forums) the PP 'Glass Bead Games' was a needle drop. Haven't heard that version but can say that tge audio on the CJ Strata-East Mosaic is really excellent for this session.
  13. My subscription CDs have just arrived courtesy UPS after being stuck for a week in their warehouse for UK Border Force checks. A saga - but all ends well. Starring off with 2/25/79 and it sounds great.
  14. Nimbus Collective 'Live In Lotusland' (Pure Pleasure/Nimbus 3LP)
  15. I will be interested in reports on the new LPs but to be honest am more than happy with my Pure Pleasure LPs, various originals and what is included on those Mosaic/Select sets. Will probably go for the Heath Brothers release and others not already purchased. I'll have to dig out my Keno Duke 'Jazz Contemporaries - Reasons In Tonality' - an unexpected find at a shop in Australia.
  16. Yes, I was unable to see the Ashburton gig at which 'Band of Bands' was recorded but this made up for it. Not sure what the plans are for future gigs but will be keeping an eye on Mike's 'Diary' page on the website. Maybe also Kate will be doing further gigs with the 'Granite' Band (who I have also yet to see).
  17. Delivery of my bundle of #2-11 is scheduled for tomorrow, via UPS.
  18. Sad news - I think I have one of his trombone mutes somewhere.
  19. Yes, one can detect the hand of Woody Shaw in the production as well (plus Cuscuna and Gregg). Now spinning - Don Wilkerson 'Preach Brother !' (BN NY USA stereo) Another fantastic album, effectively an Andrew Hill 'stealth' album. I am impressed by the recent Tone Poet release.
  20. Very sad news - I was literally just playing the recent CD release on R&B Records (excellent) when I heard the news. The CBS and Turtle Records releases are particular favourites. Also of note - his valuable contributions to the 'Jazz Britannia' TV series. Don't think I ever saw him, alas. RIP. With Tony Kinsey's passing also just announced, this has not been a good week for British jazz.
  21. Hi Anthony - It was a cracking concert, in a lovely theatre location right next to the sea wall at Lyme Regis. I'm a big fan of the 'Band of Bands' CD and the performance was at least as good as on the CD, it really is a good show and the players fit superbly with Mike's objectives for this group, sounding bigger than a 7-piece with the dual sax (Chris Biscoe, Pete Whyman) and accordian (Karen Steet) front line. They also cover a lot of stylistic ground - Ellington, Hollander, various Westbrook projects across the decades. It is great that Mike W. is back in live performance. This was the first performance back after long illness in 2024. He's wheelchair-bound at the moment but playing and directing the band with his usual enthusiasm, with Matthew Bourne providing some additional keyboard support. Worked very well. Hopefully there will be more such gigs during 2025. As an added bonus the sun was also out on the seafront at Lyme, a rare chance for February tan !
  22. Carter Jefferson 'The Rise of Atlantis' (Timeless)
  23. Yes, the Milestone floodgates seemed to open around 1978. I remember buying McCoy's 'Super Trios' around that time. Needed ear defenders when spinning the Tony Williams disk.
  24. Yesterday - Mike Westbrook's 'Band of Bands' at Lyme Regis, Dorset.
