  1. Not to forget these two Uptown gems -
  2. $50 is a bit more like it - still steep though. I would like a vinyl version without having to take out a mortgage, preferably. The London concert had the orchestral suite following on from the first half quartet performance, I recall. Might even have a couple of photos of the orchestral bit - will have to check.
  3. £70 UK price for the CD version is bad enough - but £189.99 for the vinyl. Struth !! I would expect Wayne to have signed and hand-coloured the comic book for that sort of price.
  4. Dutch Fontana Jazzcraft issue
  5. These tracks are also included in the version of the album included in the Complete Columbia box set. According to the book included with the box, the tracks were recorded at the same concert at Shinjuku, Japan which yielded ‘Jean Pierre’.
  6. Fascinating - and sad - article.
  7. Other than the ‘Freak Zone’, that station is a blank for me. The only Gideon I know is our illustrious ex-Chancellor.
  8. Obviously on an Art Farmer kick today. That’s a good one. Back to Onkel Po’s with this pressure cooker..
  9. Who’s Gideon Coe?
  10. The Byrd/Gryce Columbias. Good sonics for a 1973 issue. An old favourite.
  11. I need to dig out my copy of the MJQ Mosaic set, not spun it for a while - sound is excellent and to be honest I’ve been preferring it over the few MJQ Atlantics I have on vinyl. Recommended.
  12. Hope you have a good one !
  13. Nearly as pricey as an Erich Kleinschuster CD..
  14. I did a similar check - with the same reaction. Never saw them in the shops (when we still had jazz CD shops over here). Sounds like the Austrian branch/equivalent of Mole Jazz. Too bad.. Damn boutiques everywhere..
  15. Well, I for one will be relieved that it is over for a while now, so that I can listen to a bit more jazz and not the exploits of messrs Cook, Root, Jimmy and co. !
  16. ‘Kay-Jazz’ - those VHSs were put out by TCB, a specialist jazz film distributor who operated from Frome, SW England. They supplied great films to specialist cinemas and TV channels in the 1970s/80s (I remember seeing one cinema ‘festival’ supplied by them in the late 70s which had much rare stuff e,g. the Rhapsody Film stuff and films with Sun Ra) and then they released VHSs which the likes of Mole Jazz used to stock. I’ve picked up quite a few of them. Notable releases were the ‘Frankly Jazz’ and ‘Jazz Scene USA’ shows.
  17. If you are a fan of Latin American and like The Dells, then it will appeal. Very unusual session with Bunky on varitone for some of it. Maybe not one for jazz purists though and the soloing is a bit prescribed. Some nice Art Hoyle on trumpet.
