  1. It’s tempting for me - as I only have the two Lester Bowie Brass Fantasy titles and these are on vinyl. Plus - the booklet. Likely only half of it in English but, even so..
  2. Yazz Ahmed ‘La Saboteuse’ (Naim)
  3. Neil Ardley ‘Greek Variations’ (World Record Club edition)
  4. Happy Birthday - may the soul jazz be with you !
  5. No, I don’t think the Harry Beckett Oguns were ever issued on CD. I have one of them. Saw Han Bennink on a couple of occasions with ICP - he did some good solos on the walls of the club !
  6. So - table tennis is out and cricket is in?
  7. Reminds me of her appearance at the Wiltshire Music Centre about 12 years ago, with a group including Paul Motian I think. Very impressive - no return visit sadly but I believe that she is performing in London in November. Edited to say maybe not Motian but possibly Cuong Vu in the band. Details are hazy but I do recall her doing an interlude on solo harmonium !
  8. Wow - tempting ! I was pondering an LP copy of ‘Urban Bushmen’ at about a quarter the price of this set the other day. So, good bang for buck.
  9. Yeah ! Very nice release from ‘Pablo Live’.
  10. Playboy towers, Chicago? That looks like one of those Heffner TV shows.
  11. Most of this one..
  12. Did Harry Beckett ever make a bad album? This one eluded me for years - never saw it for sale in Mole etc. so can only assume that it disappeared pretty fast after issue. Damn shame that it was never reissued on CD.
  13. Harry Beckett ‘Joy Unlimited’ (Cadillac)
  14. Happy Birthday !!
  15. Very sad news if true - not confirmed on wiki though.
  16. They came out around 1977 onwards. I’ve still got a bundle of them. The ‘Stitt Plays Bird’ was also reissued in that series.
  17. Yeah, ‘Homecoming’ was a popular jazz release with a buzz about it over here too. Remember hearing several of the tracks on a Beeb show. Being a cheapskate at the time though, I bought it as a deletion !
  18. I always found the recorded sound on ‘Homecoming’ very flat, which never helped. My preference amongst that Dexter CBS batch is ‘Sophisticated Giant’, with those fine Slide Hampton charts.
  19. Back in the day, Tony Russell’s Spotlite Label and the Hep label from up in Scotland were great sources of bop material. I particularly like the Howard McGhee ‘Trumpet at Tempo’.
  20. ‘Collectors Choice’ CD
  21. From the Hutcherson Mosaic Select.
  22. Shocking, tragic news - RIP.
  23. Can never remember a time when he hasn’t been around, on TV or radio. A great innings. RIP.
