  1. It will be interesting to see if it improves on the BGO CD sound, which I found pretty damn good in itself. Needless to say, I’m ‘in’ for yet another version of this stuff ! Could be the reissue of the year.. Jazzman need to put out a black/blue logo T shirt of that logo. I’ll buy 100.. Shame Ian isn’t around to see this reissue. I think he would have been chuffed.
  2. UK Impulse black/silver stereo
  3. Heck, you can buy 4 or 5 original press Hank Mobley Blue Note ‘stick insect’ LPs for that !
  4. Same here - probably the same tour. Melton Mustapha on trumpet, Essiet Essiet on bass. Brilliant live group and most professional. It was about -30 outside as I recall.
  5. Definitely worth checking out the 2CD recorded with the Belmondos !
  6. I’ve got a rolling programme of these things. Diversity, security, health & safety, fire awareness, pre-retirement.. I remember one of those things where you had to pass and if you didn’t the word went back up the line for ‘corrective action’. Of note, quite a few senior managers failed..
  7. Still available via the alternative Mosaic universe in Barcelona !
  8. Sounds familiar. Never got the warnings though !
  9. That looks like Kathy Stobart on the cover.
  10. Picked this 3 CD set from Germany up for a relative pittance several years ago - some good stuff on there.
  11. Bite the bullet and get hold of the Mosaic set?
  12. For a Sun Ra compilation, this one can’t be beaten. Great sound too.
  13. I agree. Maybe because it appeared right before MCA took things over. I don’t think it got much visibility over here when it came out. Interestingly, it appeared around the same time as John Handy’s ‘Hard Work’ - which was of course a mega-hit. People probably started listening to it, hearing Ted Dunbar’s guitar, thinking it was disco and getting very quickly dissuaded.
  14. Great record label !
  15. Also on the mighty fine Clifford Jordan Mosaic Strata-East set.
  16. UK Impulse, black label
  17. I need to pick up those Don Ellis disks on BGO. I have them on vinyl and also a couple on ‘Wounded Bird’ but undoubtedly the BGOs will be better. Ditto the Ian Carr ‘Nucleus’ that I don’t have. They did a wonderful job with the Rendell/Carr, Graham Collier and Mike Westbrook releases.
  18. Wow - ‘Jazz at the Maltings’. I thought that the BBC had wiped over the tapes for the whole of that series.
