  1. I bought a copy direct from Jon and Barabara Thompson’s Temple Music via Amazon but maybe they have run out. It is quite a tome but jam packed with interesting material. The first few chapters about JH’s post WW2 childhood and early professional career are fascinating, particularly that period with the New Jazz Orchestra. One more amazing story. JH (along with. Henry Lowther and Lyn Dobson) did early gigs in the Kray Twins’ club basement in Stoke Newingon. No audience and their was another band playing upstairs - so JH speculated that they might have been hired to muffle the noise due to the gangsters ‘interrogations’ at the back. Really wish now I could have caught a gig by this band and also the Colosseum final tour. I did get to see one of Dick Heckstall-Smith’s final gigs though (foyer of Royal Festival Hall or Barbican, early 2000s).
  2. destiny etc. ? Panama very ‘touchy feely’. Is this all-in wrestling or soccer?
  3. Well, if they both go through I’m sure both teams will be reasonably happy.
  4. I had a look at the list of items subject to Trump Tax on EC import but no mention of Mosaic Records, Uptown or Resonance fortunately.
  5. Yes, it’s a very good one. As good as Vol 1 ‘Landslide’ IMO. The Red Norvo is nice too. A Duane Tatro composition and arrangement on that one.
  6. Are Mosaics on ‘the list’ along with Harleys, Jack Daniels and cranberry juice?
  7. The sentiment of most of Sweden tonight.
  8. I’ve just got hold of a copy of the Jon Hiseman bio. An absolutely brilliant read, crammed full of detail and photos. Essential. Wasn’t previously aware that he was the drummer on the Crazy World of Arthur Brown 45rpm single ‘Fire’. Always thought it was Carl Palmer. Or that Rahsaan Roland Kirk had tried to recruit him into his group after hearing one of the Mike Taylor LPs. At Dobells, perhaps?
  9. I remember her doing a tour over here around at that time which got fairly high profile.
  10. A good one but very frustrating, as it onlly really gets going at the last track.
  11. Maybe I am being a bit mean. For quite a bit of the match as things got bogged down (it was Stalingrad after all) I was half expecting Tunisia to sneak in a winning goal with the score stuck at 1-1. That wouldn’t be the first time it had happened with these guys.
  12. They tried their damnedest to lose but didn’t quite make it..
  13. Haven’t played the vinyl in years so must dig it out. Most definitely it will have aged - in the same way some of Miles’ stuff of the same vintage has ( and some if that stuff has been likened to cartoon backing music). Heavy handed rhythms - but it did match the zeitgeist of that particular time (Reagan and Maggie in power, shoulder pads, yuppies with filofaxes )
  14. Bought it when it first came out - a big fan of it back in the day ! (Joy Ryder too)
  15. Liberty blue/white stereo
